Coach Bonnie Cashin Collection

For the Spring 2009, Coach launched a Bonnie Cashin collection, paying tribute to its late former designer, Ms Bonnie Cashin. Cashin was the one who launched the women accesories division for Coach back to 1962 and created a few iconic products for the brand especially leather products in colors such as pink, green and yellow and bags with external coin pouch. The collection consists of 14 designs of totes, framed bags and clutches. I particularly like this jeweled canvas caryall, retailing at USD698. Check out the full collection online at coach.com.

Tod’s New Pashmy Sacca Hobo

A great hobo bag to a woman is like a fool-proof piece of accessories that is practical at the same time. Tod’s puts Gwyneth Paltrow as the face of its Pashmy line and while the original Pashmy is in nylon, the new Pashmy in this snakeskin is the droolworthy version, especially in this gorgeous red color. The price of this bag is not too bad either at USD1,995 remembering the whole bag is made of snakeskin with grained leather trim. Tod’s bags are always known for its simple design and logo-free approach and this one is no different. The red snakeskin gives it a glam punch in a very classy and subtle way. Tori Spelling with Balenciaga Arena

Tori Spelling is having a great hair day in this picture and hanging on her arm is one of the classic “It” bags of all time, the Balenciaga Arena. The great thing about the Arena is Balenciaga keeps reinventing it season after season yet keeping the basic of the bag intact so it is instantly recognizable. One of the  newest version is the Balenciaga Arena Giant Brief in a triangle shape.The Arena Giant Brief is available at Barneys at USD1,695.

Louis Vuitton Monogram Epices Kalahari

What did i say about the Vuitton Kalahari in the embossed Monogram leather version being more interesting than the Monogram canvas version? Look at this bag and see how much more gorgeous it is, especially in this  beautiful color (called Safran). The collection and the colors of the leather are inspired by spices. Besides Safran, there are Masala (clay color) and Paprika (maroon color) colors too which in my opinion are interesting too but not as breath-taking as this Safran.

One thing remains the same as the Monogram canvas version – the smaller version (PM) still looks way better than the clumsy GM version. Prices are around USD4,800 and USD5,800 for PM and GM respectively.

What were they thinking? – Chanel Unlimited Collection

Oh no! Has Chanel fallen into the trap of wanting to be commercial and easily accessible like some of its other counterparts? This so-called Unlimited Collection better be limited and soon forgotten. I could not see how any of these 2 bags would be considered chic and stylo, especially with the ridiculous price tags (SGD1,520 for drawstring bag and SGD2,090 for the messenger in Singapore). Enquire from your nearest Chanel boutiques if this is for you.

Hermès Fall 2009 Birkin

How do you update a classic that is second to none in its own league? You make it younger and more fun and different yet pay tributes to its best attributes – for Hermès, that would be the leather. The Birkin Fall 2009 edition is all about the leather minus the hardwares and straps which have been replaced by the emboss of the shape. Do i like it more than the normal Birkins? Maybe not, but it surely strikes conversation.

Burberry Nylon Tote

For luxury brands, balancing between brand prestige and revenue is a delicate effort. Is it only me or it is real that Burberry’s strategy is to launch one cheaper bag annually? Remember the canvas fold-up tote last year that almost everyone i know have at least one? This year is this drawstring nylon that is available in many colors (at least 5 or 6). The bag is plain on the outside which is not bad and it opens to the Burberry signature Nova check most of us buy into the brand for. This bag is perfect for daily use or as a gift too. Get one from your nearest Burberry store or at saks for USD195.
