Givenchy Medium Caviar Nightingale

Made popular by the Olsen Twins, the Nightingale is definitely Givenchy’s most iconic bag. I had always been on the fence on this bag until i saw a lady carrying the exact same as the one here last week and realised the medium size Nightingale is actually gorgeous. The image here is not enough to do justice to the bag. The leather is grained white patent, more gorgeous in “person”. This classic is being marked down on Barneys now from USD1,775 to USD1,069, a really good deal indeed.

Summer sale has officially begun in many parts of the world, including Singapore’s legendary Great Singapore Sale (GSS). I have noticed that the sale this year is indeed the most attractive within the last 5 years. Coach, Bally, Celine, Ferragamo and Chloé, for instance offers up to 70% discount while Burberry, Loewe, Marc by Marc and Marc Jacobs up to 50%. Gucci, Prada, YSL, Tod’s, Fendi will commence within a week. Go go! Throw in the much needed money to keep the economy spinning and do your patriotic deed!

Prada Saffiano Calf Leather Bag

I have been loving this Prada bag since years ago but never really got into buying it. Now i seriously do consider getting it but in which color? I am glad Miuccia Prada realises that there is more to Prada classic than the nylon collections. Prada Saffiano leather is one of my favourite signature leathers alongside Hermes Epson, Vuitton Taiga, Gucci boar skin (see the pattern?). This bag is very much my style too. I am thinking larch/ waxy white (not in the picture)/ ruby/ ochre/ cobalt blue and loving all equally. Best now to get it in UK at GBP745 for the 38cm and GBP775 for the 40cm. Since a friend might be travelling to London by end of this year, i would have made my decision by then.

Note to the men: If you find conventional briefcase to be too boring and totes to be too metrosex, this is the right balance.

Louis Vuitton ION Orchard Singapore Store

Watch out for 2 July 2009 as it is the date when Louis Vuitton’s largest store in Singapore and South-east Asia will be unveiled at ION Orchard. If you have found it tiresome for a while having to queue to shop in the brand’s Ngee Ann City store (largest in Singapore at this moment), this will be more than a redemption. Besides the awesome 2-leveled, 850 square-meter architectural showcase, there will be a range of exclusive and highly limited-edition products specially created for the opening of this store, mostly bearing the label “Louis Vuitton. Ochard Road Singapore”. How cool is that?

The way i think of it – The store design is like the beautiful box wrapping the even more exciting exlcusive products. I am calling my relatives from Indonesia.

May 28 – Burberry Day in NYC

Mayor Bloomberg declared May 28 as the Burberry Day in the NYC commemorating the opening of the British luxury brand’s new American HQ on 444 Madison Avenue. Bloomberg said ““By placing its new headquarters for the Americas in midtown Manhattan and opening new stores here, Burberry is investing in the future of New York City, a worldwide hub for retail and fashion.”

Christopher Bailey’s collection for Spring/ Summer 2009 has been dubbed among the best collections for the season and is personally my favourite look of the season. Burberry summer sale has started in a few countries around the world. Be prepared!

Gucci GG Icon

Almost every one of the biggest luxury brands in the world has at least one iconic signature and for the world’s largest Italian brand, Gucci, the GG is one of the most recognizable besides the family crest, the bamboo and the flora.

Created in the early 60s, Gucci GG icon has been transformed from a mere initial of the founder, Guccio Gucci into one of the most prominent symbols for luxury. The icon has also been modified into numerous variations and printed onto materials ranging from fabric to velvet, steel, precious metals and leathers.

Gucci has a special place in my heart since Tom Ford days and will always do. Maybe it also has something to do with my love for vintage but revisiting old archives and pictures of old Gucci products never fails to excite me. Anyone from Gucci who is reading this, i do hope to get the invite to your precious archive one day. I love Florence too much anyway.

Askme – BFF’s Birthday present

Hi Purseholic Team,

I’d appreciate it if you can give me some suggestions on a great birthday gift for my bestie’s 30th .She loves buying and collecting clutches so I want to get her something a little bit extraordinary in design but within my budget of about SGD400 (USD260). With the coming of GSS (Great Spore Sale) I’m sure clutches won’t cost me that much right? I am no good at such thing so pls give me at least 2 recommendations. Oh, I  have no problem buying it online too if it’s not sold in here. Thanks and appreciate the response!

It is so sweet that you and your BFF still have the tradition of gift giving for bday. My first suggestion is no brainer. Coach wrislets are excellent deals, classic and inexpensive too. I would suggest get it in less boring colors such as this Bonnie Leather Large Wrislet in pink leather. The price is the States is USD128. I do not think it is available yet in Singapore either so get it at Coach.com via vPost. Another option would be this marked down blue leather clutch from Juicy Couture. The Onassis Clutch is now USD137, down from USD228 at eluxury.com. You could check whether they have it at the Juicy store at Ngee Ann City beforehand. Else, you could use vPost service too.

Marc Jacobs Memphis Robert Lexie Tote and Jennifer Bag

Barneys New York is on sale and among the bags worth considering is this Marc Jacobs tote. I was actually  quite shocked to find these two are already on sale since it is still pretty new. Furthermore, only the brown color is on sale while the other two colors (black and navy) are still on full price. I honestly think the brown color is the best out of the three and in a way, the Lexie suddenly became desirable. The Lexie tote has not been in my recommended list. Due to its size, it is, in my opinion, too loud and colorful which suits Betty Suarez more than any other people. However, given that it is currently at 40% off, quite a big size, full leather with such intricate details and the fact that it is a Marc Jacobs, i have to say i am lured. The bag is now on sale at Barneys for USD1,199, down from USD1,995.

I have however been rooting the Robert Jennifer shoulder bag since it first came out. I know the leather details and all that are exactly the same as the Lexie but in smaller size, it looks pretty and not overwhelming from. The brown color Jennifer is also on sale at Barneys at the same price. I will say hurry up for this one.

Askme – Gucci Bag for 21st Bday and Graduation

You guys rock! I am turning 21st in a week and graduating from my Uni in a few weeks so my parents are giving me a present. I asked for a Gucci bag. Any recommendation? It is my first designer bag, i hope to love it forever. I always wear dresses and bright colors such as sky blue, white, pink and yellow. I want the bag to match most of my clothes. My mom keeps the budget at $1500.

Happy Birthday and Congratulations on your graduation! My graduation feels like a million years ago.  A Gucci bag as your first designer bag is a good choice and since you come across as a little miss sunshine to me somehow, i am recommending some more feminine bags in the Gucci signature GG fabric. I always think the white leather trim on any Gucci GG fabric bags somehow makes the bag feminine and hopefully you like at least one of the three.

Versace Bags on Sale

Versace on eluxury.com are on hot sale! And among the goods are the to-die-for bags. As with anything else Versace, the design of the bags must be over-the-top glam yet classy and these four bags are definitely in (long live Medusa!). The Madonna Boston bags (both on top) are probably the most iconic Versace bags today. I still remember my aunt frantically rushed back and forth between Jakarta-Singapore-Jakarta  to hunt it down when the first white embossed leather version came out a few years back.

These four are my favourites among the bags on sale at eluxury.com. Be warned that it is not going to be easy to choose just one when all are on such a mark-down.

Christian Dior Lady Dior

Lady Diana with Lady Dior Bag

In the 90s, the late Princess Diana started one spark (among many sparks she made) in the fashion history  with a Dior bag that officially sent the house into bag business, hence the name of  the bag is a tribute to the Lady. Today, Dior is still among the few fashion mega brands which rely more on its ready-to-wear and make-up lines for its revenue generation as opposed to on its leather goods such as Hermes, Gucci and Vuitton. Nevertheless, its Lady Dior bag is still one of the most iconic and timeless bags around.

Almost 20 years later, John Galliano updated the classic again and putting one of French hottest actress, Marion Cotillard as the new face of the house and for the bag. Leighton Meester’s Blair Waldorf in the Gossip Girl has been seen with different reincarnations of the bag throughout the season 2 of the show. The new Lady Dior bags were definitely designed with younger audiences in mind and the best part is, it is still one of the classic bags we come across less often today.

As the name suggests, this piece of Dior is for a lady, not any women, let alone girls. The bag is simple and feminine yet the owner knows herself and has discovered her own style long time ago.
