The nylon bags turned Prada from an old luggage house to a respectable fashion behemoth overnight back in the 90s. There is unique appeal with Prada bylon bags that other brands could not replicate. It could give a sense of being smarter carrying one black nylon Prada tote than a heavily logo-ed one from another brand. Of course then again it depends on the mood and what you wear but generally Prada nylon is just safe to fall back on. I own one old Prada nylon tote (limited edition) that i adore and of which my sisters are envious. For you who shop often or like throwing stuff inside your big bag and tired of Louis Vuitton Neverfull, feel free to fall back on the newly styled Prada tote. For this Fall, the tote is available in various colors of nylon and with choices of Saffiano leather or Crocodile skin trims, if you could spare more cash for the premium. The one with Saffiano trim is priced at €350 while the crocodile trim is at €620. The trick with Miuccia Prada’s initial (MP) is not inclusive with the bag and sold separately.

This is the darling of the Gucci Fall/ Winter 2009 bag collection. The large New Jackie in Guccissima leather has stucked with me for a while since i tried it on (big enough as a man bag) and now it comes in this beautiful shade of grey (i have a soft spot for this cool color) for Fall 2009. The beauty of this baby lies in its classic iconic shape and the size which is huge, making it a bonafide statement piece. I find the bamboo tassel interesting but if it is not for you, the accessory is detachable. I am speechless now. It is exhausting to adore but not being able to own one now. Available at Gucci stores or online for GBP1,644.

The world has lost its biggest pop star. Michael Jackson had inspired millions of people to dare to dream and make a career in the music industry, dare to dance and make elaborated and well-coreographed video music and redefined the pop music scene from the 80s to 90s. Michael was a friend to thousands and an idol to millions (or even billions). It will take a while for us to get used to the idea of the world without Michael Jackson. Nevertheless, his work lives on. Long live the King!

Now you are talking! Although not yet as much as i had hoped for, Gucci’s Fall/ Winter 2009 bags are showing pretty good outlook with a few bags being the front-runners. The Secret bag, especially in this sand GG fabric with dark green leather and dark green crocodile trim is all classy and glam. The front look of the bag bears resemblance to Hermes Birkin (intentional?) but the bag is zip-top, not flap like a Birkin. There is another variation to this bag that is not as wide but taller and comes with a real flap like a Birkin. The Secret is available in brown leather trims too. The only problem with this bag is the price. I understand the crocodile trim did add a good dimension to the bag and that it costs a lot but by the end of the bag, the bag is still made of mostly GG fabric. This featured piece costs GBP1,280 in UK while the taller version costs GBP1,520.

It is official that everyone who is anyone owns at least one Hermes Birkin. Marc Jacobs was recently spotted playing with a puppy and carrying a black Birkin (either size 35 or 40) in NYC. There have been questions on why he had not carried a Vuitton or Marc Jacobs bag around instead but who cares? Let the man carries a bag he likes even if it is from a competing brand. Fashion is not always about endorsement, is it? Love the bag, love the jacket and his haircut and all that. Not really into his skirt or kilt, whatever you classify that as. I guess i am still a conservative when it comes to men wearing skirts. How long do you think it took Marc to get his Birkin? One of my aunts hunted it for a few months and got her first in red.

A classic woven pattern design, Pied-de-poule has been used over and over again on fabrics for clothes, coats and shoes but when it comes to Bottega’s reincarnation, it is definitely on Nappa leather. After last season’s forgettable or rather better-off-forgotten bags, Bottega is back to its roots of making bags with classic shapes with exciting yet classy details and this bag surely fits the bill. At least, this is what the Pre-Fall collection looks like. The Double Zip Top Handle bag has a classic shape that would qualify as a keeper and the woven leather version with Pied-de-poule pattern is available at USD2,700 online. If you like the bag but the pattern is not for you, get the one in full Python for USD3,400. In my opinion, both prices are great for Bottega bags. Is Bottega reducing its prices to keep up with challenging times like this?
