My Own Balenciaga Work Fall 2009 Autumn

I have fallen in love with Balenciaga Work since last July and despite almost got side-tracked by some other bags (Gucci New Jackie, Loewe Amazona Weekender, Hermes Marwari and Prada Trolley Suitcase), I am glad that I managed to fall back onto this baby, especially in this beautiful vintage color (called Autumn). I have only used it once  so far (one day after I bought it last Saturday) and it has already made it into the top three favorites of my small collection. Get it from Balenciaga.com for USD1,595. Trust me when I said that this bag is such a great investment and that the soft vintage crafted lambskin is to-die-for. The bag comes with a mirror tag which I prefer keeping than showing.

Carlos Falchi Ostrich Pouf Shoulder Bag

Carlos Falchi is best known for snake skin bags so I was pretty surpised seeing his design in Ostrich, yet it is a pleasant surprise. I love everything about this bag, the color, the contrasting stitches, the Falchi signature unstructure character is also there. The price is a little pricey, in my opinion at USD2,995 but still not too bad for a full Ostrich bag. This baby is in stock in Neiman Marcus now.

Gucci Ronson Lace-up Sneakers

Marc Jacobs collaborated with Kanye West to produce limited edition sneakers for Louis Vuitton so Gucci had to catch up. I respect Frida Giannini’s choice of working with a Grammy Award winning music producer, Mark Ronson (who produced for Amy Winehouse) instead of a hip-hop artists who sabotaged Taylor Swift in an award show (I kept telling myself to get over it but I think it will only disappear by 2010). Anyway, the result is not disappointing. I love the sneakers ( I might even consider buying it if it is available in Singapore).  Even if love more for everything that come with it: Specially designed collectible silver shoe box and tissue paper with NY map, black nylon flannel bag and interlocking GG charm. Also, they do monogramming with your initial if you choose to.  On top of all those, there is also an exclusive vinyl produced by Mark Ronson as the gift. The package comes for USD530. I said, it is really worth buying. Gucci 1, Vuitton NIL.

White Shoes for a Bride

I learnt something new about the tradition of my hometown yesterday when I was out with my sis and a close friend shopping. The shopping trip was meant to help the bride (who is our friend) to get a few more things for her wedding which will happen in March next year. We had to find a perfect pair of white shoes for the big day. Pardon my ignorance but I really just found out that a pair of white shoes for a wedding actually ranks among the top of must-have list and hence we took the business pretty seriously.

So the conquest began. Naturally we made Louboutin our first stop and found a beautiful pair of satin bow shoes that made it to the list. Then we moved to Gucci and Jimmy Choo and found nothing. The next stop was Dior where we found a beautiful pair of Cannage in white but not the right size. Our last stop was Fendi and Chanel and in Chanel, she bought a red wallet instead before we set off to catch our movie (okay, maybe we had not taken it really that seriously after all). I just realized another thing – finding a pair of white shoes for a girl is not as easy as I had always thought. I wonder who came up with this tradition.

By the way, the Louboutin pair costs SGD1,280. I think with time, we could find better shoes with better price out there. Look at what I found from Nordstrom (could be shipped directly to Singapore):

Cole Haan Ceci Air Rose Sling Back (SGD617.59), Stuart Weitzman Jardin T-Strap Sandal (SGD569.97)

Also, I made a purchase myself yesterday. It is something I have been contemplating since July and finally succumbed to it. If you remembered something I had mentioned I liked back then (hint hint: Referred by Christian Dior as “The Master of us all”), you would have known. Will showcase it in a few days’ time.

Christmas Gift Ideas for Men

Christmas is just about a month away. Can’t believe how fast the year 2009 went by. It seems like nothing much has been accomplished this year and it is almost over. There is no plan to spend Christmas anywhere overseas this year. Some of my friends will be spending the holidays in Japan. I am very jealous! Anyway, these are the things I want for Christmas.

1. Check Sweater from Burberry. This is classic and cool. I am a sweater guy and this is very appealing to me. It costs USD550 at Saks, pricey but is a small sum for the man in your life.

2. I am King by Sean John is my new favourite Scent now. It is modern, fresh and smells like a young King. I am indulging myself in a new bottle now. Get it from your nearest upscale departments stores.

3. Time to update the briefcase we has been using for years to work. This modern leather briefcase from Bodhi is young and classy. Available at Nordstrom for USD658. Nordstrom ships internationally now.

Askme – Limited Edition Louis Vuitton Bags

Hi Purseholic

SAs in Louis Vuitton stores always tell me that it is worth buying their limited edition bags as the value goes high after being discontinued. What do you think? I own many classic Monogram and Damier Canvas pieces and still love them much but I am thinking of getting one Louis most people do not get.

Janice in Jakarta

Hi Janice

Seems like you are a big Vuitton fan. I would say SAs will always try to clear their seasonal products ASAP as they tend to command higher prices and bigger profit margins but on some limited edition items, the value does go up once discontinued so it is not too bad as either an investment or object of envy to others. Still I will say, pick your limited edition bag very carefully and do not get one just because you want one soon.

I will say NO to this Richard Prince Jokes Bag no matter how it was dubbed an art piece with python skin straps, by the end of the day, it is a canvas bag with sometimes-funny joke and they want more than USD3,000 for this. I dun think the price is any higher that its original retail now.

I will however say YES to this Monogram Stephen Bag. It is a limited edition but it does have the attributes of a classic bag. Make it a point to invest in such bags from Louis Vuitton if you are going for its limited edition pieces.

Hope you get the picture.

Hermes Kelly Travel Bag

This is on the window display of the newly refurbished Hermes Takashimaya at Ngee Ann City Orchard Road, Singapore. Gorgeous Kelly, isn’t it? The Birkin of the similar size costs SGD17,500 here so I guess this one is about the same price as well.

What Were They Thinking? – Louboutin Spike Studded Shopper

Seriously… WTF?? I know some Gothic thingy could be fun and cool sometimes but this is like a Durian. I will just call this a Durian bag and it is not a pretty Christian Louboutin. I think this should be categorized as a hazard or a weapon and should not be allowed on a flight. Worst is it costs USD2,995. There is only one way a lady should carry this bag: when on the way to catch the husband cheating. If you happen to be one, I am sorry, it is available at Bergdorf for pre-order.
