I watch ‘NINE’ last week and have to agree that while Rob Marshall is still one of the greatest Hollywood’s Directors, he did not manage to come anywhere close to ‘CHICAGO’. The cast did deliver what they are expected to, especially Penelope Cruz who just owned the scenes. Penelope Cruz owned the night at the London Premier of ‘NINE’ in Ralph Lauren gown, paired with a gorgeous blue snakeskin clutch from the designer too. I think she scored nine out of nine here.

Now the game is on! It seems like Furla is stepping up its effort to gain a bigger pie of the expanding market share of man bags. The Goa briefcase is a very cool bag meant for a cool man too. I am loving the vintage feel from the creased sheepskin, which should be soft and the rich dark brown color which provides a beautiful contrast to the brown-orange web handles and shoulder strap. Price is not bad for a full leather, made in Italy bag at GBP524 too. LOVE it!

One of the Hermes classic pieces, the Jige clutch is a perfectly elegant and understated clutch made entirely of leather without a single piece of hardware. For the Spring/Summer 2010, the collection is re-introduced in the signature Blue Jean, orange, Honey, black and a dashing yellow. Price starts from USD2,175 for the large size (cheaper than the smaller for whatever reason) in my favorite leather of Hermes’, the Epsom (featured here in the signature orange). What a piece…

We do not feature enough Kate Spade here on purseholic and we should have. This tweed bag stole my attention when I passed by the Kate Spade store at Takashimaya last Saturday. There is everything to love about this bag – the classic shape, youthful design and colors and the tweed material which reminds me of Chanel bags, except for its attractive price at only USD295 (it costs SGD580 in Singapore). The workmanship of Kate Spade items are impeccable and the items are always in style too. We will see more Kate Spade here for sure. Stay tune!

Ferragamo bags are not exciting lately, which is, in my opinion worse than making fugly bags that create buzz. This side-tied satchel is alright, not exactly Ferragamo style but it will appeal to younger crowds. The best thing I like about this bag is its beautiful blue shade. Like I said, not buzz-worthy. Price is OK at USD1,250 for a full leather tote.

Artist impression of the Gucci Paragon Flagship Store
It is long due for upgrade and now it has finally arrived. Gucci in Paragon Orchard, Singapore took over the spot once Ferragamo and Aigner stood and the four floors above it, making it a five-storey flagship boutique to match the upgrades of the other luxury brands such as Louis Vuitton and Prada in ION Orchard. The first two storeys of the boutique have opened for business since about two weeks ago. Following its predecessors such as the stores in Rome, New York, Shanghai and Hong Kong among few, the Singapore store carries Frida Gianini’s vision of warm, open and luxurious feel with brown and gold tones. It is a depart from the Tom Ford’s cold black and silver concept we have accustomed to for the past one decade. I personally like Frida’s concept very much as it has a touch of the luxurious old Gucci feel.

The Paravanda Frida Boston Bag
To commemorate the opening of this store, the Singapore Tourism Board and Singapore Botanic Garden named an orchid after Frida, Paravanda Frida. Apparently, Singapore has outdone their New York, Rome and Shanghai counterparts in welcoming the Italian giant to the city state and in return, like what she has done for the opening of the three flagship stores before this, Frida launched a highly limited edition Gucci Joy collection, called the Paravanda Friday collection, for an obvious reason.

The Paravanda Frida Collection
The collection will be launched in early March 2010, together with the store opening which Frida herself will attend. It comprises of 78-piece-only coated canvas Boston bag, 10-piece-only leather-appliqued Boston bag with croc trims and wrislets. The price for the coated canvas Boston is SGD1,280 and is available for pre-booking now (if not already fully booked).

The Paravanda Frida
100% sales of this collection’s Boston bags will be donated to Singapore’s Mainly I Love Kids (MILK) charity.

After 9 seasons of being the face for the French house, Kate Moss finally launched the first collection of which she designed. Like in the case of Kate Moss for Topshop, the collaboration will be an ongoing one, instead of just a capsule collection. The collection, without doubt, took reference from the Supermodel’s unparalleled personal off-runway style and this Sohoclutch in Zebra print is my favorite piece of the collection. The clutch is made in France of leather with synthetic hair layering, available in UK for GBP450 and around SGD1,600 in Singapore. One should stop shopping in Singapore nowadays but still, a very nice piece of work this bag is.
