Hello Purseholic

I am planning to buy a set of Goyard bags for me and my husband, in the same color and personalize both with our initials on them. Both my husband and I are working in creative industry and we both want special pieces for ourselves. I am consdering the Boeing 35 for myself and Ambassade for my husband, both in red canvas but I might have missed out other good designs from Goyard. Since there is limited info on Goyard bags, may i have your suggestion?

If you both plan to use the bags for work then you have made the right choices with Boeing 35 and Ambassade for both you and your hubby. However, if you really want something special, I would recommend going with the Saigon for yourself and St Lucie for your hubby. I think both bags fit your creative nature better. Anyway, with Goyard, you should never stop at one each. You could always buy more later.

How do you make fashion out of antique cars as inspiration? Only Prada knows how and well, if you are getting a little tired over clean and simple fashion from the likes of Celine and Jil Sander, ironically, Prada Spring/Summer 2012 is the perfect anti-thesis for that. Why ironic, you might ask? Simply because Prada was the master of simplicity fashion back in the 1990s but seeing the 1950s inspired collection for the Spring 2012, one could not help but appreciate the duality and element of surprise that is Prada. This is, in my opinion, exactly why Prada remains the ruler of Milan fashion. There are only a handful of other designers in Milan, Paris, NYC and London this season, whose collection is as uplifting as Prada.

As for the bag? the frame bags are surely the order of the season (what else do you expect from the 1950s?). Then again, why settling with its classic Saffiano or Vernice leather re-incarnation that might potentially run you into a “done-it” situation when you can have this exquisitely bejeweled frame bag that is one of a kind (Price is USD3,990)? We need glam back in fashion and people continue dressing up without worrying about whether the clothes can last for more than one season. On that note, I am also happy to report that most of the pieces from Prada this season does it without having to fall into the category called “classic”. Just see for yourself!

Who are in your must-see list for the New York Fashion Week? For me, Marc Jacobs definitely ranks in the top three, if not the top. Missing Marc Jacobs in NYC is like missing Dior in Paris or Prada in Milan.

For Fall 2012, MJ reminds us again why he remains one of the most powerful fashion designers alive today. I am left with only three words to describe the show: Dress-upped, Fashion-fundamental and Magical. It made me wonder why we even ever bother to dress down to begin with.

As for the bags, they did not steal the show. However, they did not go unnoticed either, obviously. The bags are classic material and made to be carried daily. I think of them as the perfect juxtaposition to the clothes.

For whatever reason, I love linen bags, especially when one is done as well as this new YSL. The Double Y tote is timeless and elegant. It might not be as versatile given its rigidity but it surely is stylish. The new logo of Yves Saint Laurent house adds a very nice touch too, giving it the nice vintage finishing on the bag. Aww… Marc just did it again! When Marc Jacobs gets a bag right, it is just awesome from every aspect and angle one could imagine. I never suspected fuchsia and red would go this well together but then again Marc knows better. On the other hand, it is Marc by Marc Jacobs so I am not sure whether Marc Jacobs even knows about the existence of this bag at all. Then again a beautiful bag is still a beautiful bag regardless of what label it is from. Price is GBP406. Nice work, I say!

Trust Wang to turn a simple leather tote into a sleek, understated cool tote I would be caught dead and happy carrying myself. Price is GBP486 at net-a-porter.com. It is amazing how much better those four pieces of metal protecting the corners at the bottom of the bag make it look than without.

My siblings and I had our first trip to the South Korea last December. The land promises perfect boy/girl band choreography, spotless complexion, cheap but quality skin products, stars who look too cute to be true (they might not necessarily be) and trendy fashion for skinny people with affordable price so in here, little did we expect to be greeted (and swept away) by bags from Bruno Magli. But boy… we really were!

Bruno Magli shoes tend to stay on the safer side of design, which makes them look like grannies standing next to the likes of Choos, Louboutins and Manolos. Once in a blue moon, however, it surprises me. The last time that happened, I ended up buying a pair of SGD565 Bruno Magli shoes that I still consider one of my most precious treasures til date.

While shopping, we came across a pleasant surprise of uncovering an exclusive line of bags made by Bruno Magli only for the South Korean market. Their cube shape bag, made popular by the TV star, Yoon Eun Hye, has been spotted with her in her show  and in real life, propelling the status of the bag to somewhat ‘It”. We love the bag the moment we saw it and we adore every single of its details – the leather, workmanship, light weight, color choices and of course, its style and design. The bag is officially our “best buy” from the trip, alongside my green leather jacket from Zara.

The bag still does not have an official name yet. Somebody in the marketing department of Bruno Magli better picks up the slack because I honestly think that this bag has a big potential outside Korea! It should have been named the Cube bag or the YEH bag or something and promoted more. As of now, too bad only the Koreans get to enjoy this beautiful creation. The bag was sold out in December. Everywhere I see, people are either carrying or crying desperately to carry a Celine Luggage bag. The bag is all my friends and colleagues have been talking abut lately. What is the deal with this bag? I quite like the small one with shoulder strap but unsure whether it will be one of those bags I regret buying a few months later. Should I jump onto the wagon and play along?

If you have the means, you should jump onto that Luggage wagon too as it is the first bag in decades, I think, that has posted a serious competition to the Hermes Birkin so the bag could not be as trendy and seasonal as you fear. Nevertheless, I can’t say much about the Nano size, which is the one you like with the shoulder strap (20cm x 20cm x 10cm). If staying power is what you opt for, the size Mini (30cm x 30cm x 18cm) is the one you should go with. Other sizes to consider are the Shoulder (30cm x 37cm x 18cm) and the Micro (26cm x 26cm x 14cm). What is the deal with this bag? It is just ‘It’: simple, fuss-free, classy and versatile bag that comes with relatively reasonable price tag but as hard to get as some most valued art pieces. The hard-to-come-by part might be off-putting to some but it is a thrill to most. We ran out of our Mini Luggage bags within one month. You should check out our Shoppe religiously if you do not like the wait-list.

The handbag bug must have bitten the people at Rochas because they seem to have become really serious about the business. After series of colorful and palatable totes last season as teasers, The Rochas Lock tote comes across as the perfect main “dish”. This Rochas tote embodies Creative Director Marco Zanini’s vision of the house: “the quintessence of Parisian women with edge.” Cleanly structured, this bag eschews superfluous embellishments and instead makes a statement with versatile color. The bag is lined with lambskin and is competitively priced at USD1,810 at Neiman Marcus. I am sensing a strong comeback here. The Lock tote is available for pre-order now for delivery in April 2012.

In the February issue of US Vogue, Plum Sykes wrote about her original love for the original “It” bag back in the 90s – The Fendi Baguette. Fendi will be bringing back 6 of its most iconic Baguette bags this Spring. After trying on the three bags Fendi sent to her, Sykes finally decided that the Baguette will be relevant again this Spring so it does not hurt to review some of the currently available Baguettes again, just in case it goes “It” and unattainable again in a few months. The two pieces that I love the most in the current line-up are the beaded multicolor version (left, price is USD2,680) and the strawberry red leather version (right, price is USD1,260). Will you fall in love again with the arguably, your first love with bags?

Here are some pieces we love very much this season at Purseholic. Just in case you need some ideas.

The new Balenciaga Giant 12 City is updated with smaller bolts, making the bag lighter but not less Balenciaga-edgy in any way. Price is EUR1,245.

The Hermes Marwari is the bag I have had in my radar for a while now (in GM size, of course). We think of it as the perfect company / anti-thesis to the more formal Birkin, Kelly, Bolide and Lindy. It is an icon in the making. Price is EUR2,270.

One could never go wrong with a Chanel bag, whether it is a classic or a trendy piece. We love the classic flap bags and the GST, for sure but for this season, the Mademoiselle bowling bags and the lambskin tote above are the Chanel “It” bags. Prices are available upon request.

Hermes accessories are wearable pieces of art. Each piece is an investment that never goes out of style and looks better with age. The Cape Code PM watch costs EUR1,950 and the Clic H bangle costs EUR459.

Lastly, everyone needs a serious watch to be taken seriously and this has increasingly applicable to women too. While Rolex, Cartier and Patek remain the front-runners for ladies watches, Chopard is another brand not to be forgotten. The Imperiale collection is as elegant as it could get.
