I refer to your post on Valentino Rockstud double handle tote bag and I really beg to differ. I have never been a fan of Celine Luggage bag but I find this Valentino bag to be really nice instead and I am not a die-hard Valentino fan. I am getting the one in beige with crystal. Just wanted to voice out my opinion here, not asking for approval. I agree that the bag does look like Celine Luggage but I think it is an improved version of it.

Appreciate your honesty and opinion. I agree with you that the bag is not a bad bag at all, Celine Luggage look-alike or not. I just happen to love the Celine Luggage more but I do adore the Valentino bag with crystal that you are buying. The bag is whimsical. Just think of it as you are getting all the functionality of the Celine Luggage with a look that you really like in this bag.

Cartier Calibre de Cartier

This is long due but I finally managed to get to playing with this watch myself last evening when I accepted the invitation of one of my local watch retailers’ SA to look-see. I am not exactly in the market for any watch for now due to budget constraints and the fact that my Omega Speedmaster Date and Rolex Submariner Green Ceramic still could hold my desire for yet another watch. Then again, after last evening, the game seems about to change.

Released about two years ago, the Calibre de Cartier is set to put Cartier watches in the category of serious watchmakers. I had seen the pictures of this watch everywhere before and thought that while the design is beautiful (probably the best among Cartier’s line-up now) and the movement is pretty respectable, the watch might be too big for me. I was wrong! The watch actually sits perfectly even on my relatively small wrist. The design of the watch is modern and classic, it gives both the sporty edge that Panerai exudes (mostly due to the size) while keeping the elegance of a dress watch.

I tried on a few other watches too last evening (save it for other posts) but for now, I really like this Calibre de Cartier, especially in pink gold. The prices are considered very reasonable too, starting from SGD9,550 for the stainless steel with leather strap version to SGD29,900 for the pink gold version before discount. If you are in the market for a modern looking dress watch with in-house movement which will not burn a big hole in your pocket, this one is a serious contender.

I had two wedding parties to attend this month. Parties always make you feel very short of clutch bags. The tricky thing about clutch bag is the use rate per bag is often generally lower so it makes one think that it is not worth investing a lot and in many pieces. Once in a while, when a stunningly beautiful clutch bag comes, you should not even think twice. While black, white and red are generally safe colors for clutch and matching shoes to invest in, papaya orange gives a great element of surprise and lighten up your wardrobe. YSL Muse Bowling Bag

With Raf Simons confirmed for Dior and Hedi Slimane for YSL, French fashion scene will be very exciting again soon. While I have no doubt that Hedi Slimane will step into Stefano Pilati’s shoes without much trouble, I can’t wait to see what Raf Simons will transform Dior into. Nobody still has a clue where Stefano Pilati will be going to next after the Armani rumor was killed but whenever we see a YSL Muse bag, we will always be reminded of the genius Stefano Pilati. Will Hedi Slimane kill or update or transform the Muse bags? That, we will find out later but for now, this bowling version of the Muse is pretty sleek and looking good. Price is USD1,750. This is a long-due answer to the question of adding a shoulder strap to the Muse.

Valentino Rockstud Double Handle (Luggage?) Bag

Did you see what I am seeing? If you did then you would have thought of the Celine Mini Luggage (yes, again!) the first time you saw this bag. Aside from the additional clasp as another closure mechanism, the bag looks almost like a copy cat of the Celine Luggage itself. Yes, Valentino added the studs and emphasized on it while naming the bag but there is no way Celine Luggage was not anywhere used as reference when this bag was designed, right? If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, I wonder whether the people in Celine feel that flattered by this. Price of this bag is USD1,895. This might be the deal breaker for certain Valentino die-hard fans who are still on the fence about getting a Celine Luggage. I appreciate emulation but in this case, I still prefer the original.

I remember sending the picture of this campaign ad to my sister the first time I saw it early this year and telling her how beautiful the bag is. Miu Miu Plongé is the latest offering from the ever whimsical sister of Prada. While the Plongé might be lacking the glam aura the Coffer and most Matelasse bags exude, it does make it up with practicality while keeping the prettiness that only a Miu Miu bag carries. You know what made me fall in love with fashion to begin with (as far as I remember)? It was a pair of Versace Jeans. What made me obsess about bags to begin with? Gucci horsebit bag with dragon/snake heads. In a way, this Ribot horse-heads clutch is a reminiscence of the Gucci circa 1990s and that’s the exact reason I love it. Past attachments aside, I have to admit that it is still a classic gorgeous clutch. I love the size too as it will work for day, as well as for evening it is versatile. Price is EUR890, which is very appropriately priced, in my opinion. Gucci seems to be turning the table lately and I hope the momentum does continue.

Gucci Soft Stirrup Bag

I made a trip to Gucci store today to check out what’s new and interesting. While I was still tired of the many mediocre bags on display there, there are some interesting ones that I consider pretty inspired so we will have a few Gucci posts here this week. The Gucci Stirrup bag has had me on a fence for a while. I have considered it as a good update of the classic Gucci Bardot bag but it was bulky and stiff so I had my reservation. The soft Stirrup from this season seems to have given me the push I need to like it. Price is EUR1,400 for size small and EUR1600 for the size large.
