Hi Purseholic
Just curious, what are the bags on your wish list now?
Jay, Singapore
Hi Jay
I don’t wish to burst your bubble but honestly there is not any one bag high on my wish list for now. Blame it to the designers who, in my opinion, have been slacking on the man bag department lately. For the next season, however, there are some bags that might trip me back into love.

Gucci Unisex Hobo bag for Fall/Winter 2010
Gucci Fall/Winter 2010 promises the return of the unisex Hobo bag. Like the Jackie and the Bamboo, the Hobo is one of the house’s most iconic bags, made popular mostly by Peter Sellers. I have been waiting for Frida to bring this back into Gucci collection for a few years now and this is exciting me. I just hope it comes in a leather version instead of just the suede version because Singapore climate is just not forgiving to suede.

Givenchy Biker Bag Nightingale
Another bag I am coveting is the Givenchy Nightingale, which reached its IT status thanks to the Olsen twins but is now the house’s staple bag. Givenchy made the man bag out of the classic starting this year with at least two variations for its men’s Fall/Winter 2010 collection. I have not seen the bags in person so I am not sure whether it stands well to the original. However, even if it does not suit my taste eventually, I might just get the large version of the original. Givenchy is opening in Paragon Singapore soon and hopefully it satisfies the society’s cravings for the Nightingale.

Tod’s D Bag Bauletto
Of course, there are also some women bags that I love so much I hope the designers would have the sensibility to pick up the cues and come up with the man bag. If the bag is not girly to begin with and it could be a man bag just by blowing it up, why not? I am talking to Alexander Wang for the Rocco bag and Derek Lam for the Tod’s D Bag Bauletto here.

Hermes HAC 40 in black Clemence
Lastly, there are some classic bags on my list but they will wait simply because: one, I still have not got the moolah to spare and two, I still have other priorities in life (more holidays, more properties, cars, watches and art pieces, to name a few). Those babies are the Loewe Amazona 44 in dark green Ostrich and Hermes Birkin 40/HAC 40 in navy blue Fjord.
Just FYI… if you happen to be feeling generous, I will take any one of the above any time.

Dear Alexander
I keep and could not stop imagining your Rocco bag in a weekender size (say 45cm) with a detachable shoulder strap. Your Rocco and Mini Rocco have kicked Louis Vuitton’s Speedies in their faces so why not blow the size up and add a shoulder strap to satisfy the cravings of those for big bags and men who need man bags? I can promise you that I will instantly buy one (or two) as soon as it is out. If you do make one, make one in grey leather too because it is to-die-for. I think it will be a best selling bag too because everyone just loves the Rocco but it is too small for some people. Another thing is, do consider using lighter metal material for the studs. As fabulous as the bag looks, it does not make any sense if it is not practical to carry.
Until then, wishing you all the best but I seriously am waiting for the Weekender Rocco and I do hope we do not have to wait too long or forever.
Cheers

Oh…. I am swooning all over the Alexander Wang Rocco bag now and if only he makes the bigger version for men, I would definitely snatch one as soon as it is out! Until then, this Jodi Button carryall is quite a worthy consolation prize and is big enough to be a man bag too. The shape is not avant-garde like the Rocco itself but there are details that make it interesting like the studded bottom in the Rocco and in the Jodi Button, it is the Buttoned flap covering the top zip. I am still hopping for the big Rocco but if I have to get a white bag soon, this is it! Available exclusively at Barneys for USD820.

Following the massive success of his Rocco bag, Alexander Wang launched the Millie bag, which is a functional bag with many compartments and a dash of leopard print pony-hair to add glam onto the otherwise, standard-looking bag. The Millie is not driving me as crazy as the Rocco did but it is sticks quite well in my head now. Get it from net-a-porter for USD875 if you are digging it.

If you had not seen one of the Alexander Wang Rocco bag so far, where could you have been all these while? This is the closest thing we have got so far this year to an IT bag. Grab one for USD875 (reasonable!) from net-a-porter.com.

What a beautiful and versatile bag! Alexander Wang scored again. We saw this bag in grey too in HK last week and really loved everything about it. The leather is beautiful and pebbled (hence scratch-proof), the styling is simple and beautiful, the size is just right, not to mention, very considerate two compartments instead of one. The price? At USD750, it should be flying off the shelves. Available in Barneys.
