Askme – What after Hermes Bags?

I am a bag addict and have just bought my Hermes Birkin and Kelly (both together at the same time) and I love them both. I know that Hermes rules the handbags universe and the Birkin and Kelly rule Hermes bags so what is there after Hermes? I don’t want to lose my life passion after this, if you get what I mean?

Congratulations on your Hermes purchases. You must be thrilled! I wish I could tell you that once you own both Birkin and Kelly, you are set and you will no longer need any other bag in your life but if you are truly a bag addict, like what you claimed to be, there is never a bag purchase to stop you from buying the next one. They might make your more selective from here on and leave you play only with bags of comparable quality and prestige but they will NEVER stop you, unfortunately or otherwise, depending on what you fear.

What is there after Hermes Birkin and Kelly? There are Birkins and Kellys in other colors, ostrich and Croc Porosus with diamond-paved platinum hardware. How about bags created by Hermes just for you and named Hermes Sisca (You heard me right!)?

Taking Hermes off the table,  the hottest bag designers come and go every season too. This season, I am into Jil Sander, Victoria Beckham and the classic Goyard bags. I was into Prada and Reed Krakoff bags last season, Balenciaga and Valentino bags the season before. So you see – as much as you wish the twin purchase would stop you forever from buying another bag, the best  they do is just to slow you down (which is good enough). Give yourself two years, at most and you will feel like yourself again. =)

PS: Those Goyard trunks in the picture on top? They all belong to Karl Lagerfeld. Simon Doonan of Barneys  (above) is known to be a big fan of Goyard too, seen here with customized Goyard Ambassade.

Jennifer Aniston with Croc Ferragamo Fiammetta Bag

There are many romantic comedies on the cinema this week and I just realized it yesterday that it is because Valentine’s Day is here! I watched ‘Just Go with It’ with a friend today (not with a date, sadly but true) and I LOVED the movie very much! There are at least two things about Jennifer Aniston I have to highlight.

Firstly, she is still the undisputed coolest girl in the Hollywood. Who else could hold a candle and still shine over the 23-year old Sports Illustrated model, Brooklyn Decker and Nicole Kidman together in one movie? Rachel Green might have been gone long ago but Aniston is here to stay!

Secondly, there is something going on between Jennifer Aniston and Ferragamo (the label, not any of the men). She has been seen with Ferragamo bags in all her recent movies now, starting from the Sofia in ‘The Bounty Hunter’ and the Croc Fiammetta in here. The bag is not new but from Spring/Summer 2010, which practically means last year’s collection. Then again, the beauty about Ferragamo items is that they are classic. I am not sure what the exact price of this bag is but it should have been over USD10,000.

Blake Lively for Chanel Mademoiselle Bags

Blake Lively came to our attention from her days in the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants but it is her role as Serena in the Gossip Girl that made her a star. Lively has since been the new style icon and a darling to  the US Vogue and Anna Wintour. Who is better to be the face representing Chanel’s Mademoiselle bag collection today? I can’t think of any.

“She’s a kind of American dream girl,” Lagerfeld tells WWD of his new coup. “I think she will become a great actress. It [the shoot] was an easy job because everyone fell in love with her.”

Seems Blake’s adjusting to her new role as ambassador rather well, too.

“I will always feel [the bag] is more than just a purse,” she says. “It’s a quilted case full of lipstick, love letters and the dreams and possibilities that I have always felt every time I see that beautiful ‘CC’.”

Sounds like a match made in fashion heaven to me.

Lagerfeld himself shot the campaign, which will be out worldwide in March. Love the bags! Love Blake! Can’t wait to see the pairing.

Cartier Marcello de Cartier Shopping Bag

I got a new wallet from the Cartier Santos collection and I am falling in love  with it more every day. Many might not know this but Cartier has actually been in the game of leather goods for a while now and the fact that they are understated means that every piece of the leather goods are crafted with as much attention as their jeweleries and watches.

The Cartier Marcello bags have enjoyed enormous success with celebrities and the women of the high society ever since it was introduced a few years back. The fictional Queen of the upper-east side, Lily Bass, was spotted carrying this bag in the episode 4×01 of the Gossip Girl a few weeks back. If it fits for Lily, it so does for everyone. This beautiful cowhide and canvas version is being sold at USD1,850 at Cartier stores. Unfortunately the available man bags are still mostly rigid power briefcases for now, so not for me but I am happy adoring my precious wallet for its sturdy feel and beautifully textured “caviar” leather (which smell I love!!!).

Shia Labeouf with Ferragamo Messenger and Gucci Moccasins

I caught the Wall Street 2 today and while it met my expectations at large, the ending was, IMO, too “happy”. Yes, it might be the real case with the Wall Street people – getting 7 or 9 figures pay check while 15,000 people lost of their jobs and millions of others lost their life savings but I really think the audience could handle a little more focus on the bitterness of life such as the possibility that Gordon Gekko was really a bastard who cares more about how many more billions he could make rather than being a father.

Nevertheless, Shia Labeouf and Carey Mulligan was super super cute together, they are like a pair of very cute salt and pepper shaker. The scene where they separated was very heart-wrenching.

The other things I could not help but notice are Shia’s bag and shoes. They were Ferragamo Toronto Messenger bag (was USD850, but no longer available widely) and Gucci Moccasins (USD495), which are think while understated, look pretty nice on screen.

Blake Lively is probably the hottest and the most IT American girl right now. Look at this gorgeous young girl with such a grace and impeccable personal style. This American girl has been spending some time in Paris during the shooting of the upcoming season of Gossip Girl and it seems like she brought back with her an YSL Roady Hobo. Blake Lively is always lovely and that is a big smile, matched by equally big Fendi Peekaboo bag on her arm. Seems like the next season of Gossip Girl will pick up where S and B left for… Paris. Is there going to be a new guy? Or perhaps just a friendly Parisian fling? Anywho, his scooter is adorable.

Jennifer Lopez with DvF Stephanie Bag

Jennifer Lopez’s newest movie, The Back-up Plan was pretty funny and seriously, not bad at all. Bottom line is I enjoyed it pretty much. Back to bags – the DvF Stephanie bag appeared a few times throughout the movie and seeing it being carried, the bag is better in “person”.
