Celine Luggage Bag – Spring 2010

We have been patiently waiting for months to see Phoebe Philo working her magic at Celine and  apparently she had decided to be true to herself for her debut collection for the beloved French house. The ready-to-wear collection is all contemporary minimalist, definitely highly wearable. It is as if you could be sure that every piece in the collection will fly off the shelves in no time, grabbed by working women who love to dress up. There is something very powerful about Philo’s ability to perfectly balance up fashion-ability with power style; we have seen this since her days in Chloé but it feels even more confident here.

The bag? Nothing fussy or Padington-like in this collection. To me, the luggage bag resembles Hermes HAC with minimal hardware. Overall it is an ideal bag for work so seems like Philo is very certain with who her Celine customers would be. I passed by Celine store at Ngee Ann City Singapore a few days back and  everything has been torn down to as simple as possible. There was a 2-second lap when I had thought that the store was under renovation until I realized that that was the new look. Philo had mentioned that she would just clean it up and make it strong and powerful—a kind of contemporary minimalism. I guess she meant business.
