Burberry Leather and Nylon Hobo

It is nice to see an almost-hardwareless (hence presumably less heavy) Burberry bag for a change after seasons of gorgeous-looking bags that unfortunately weight almost like a sand bag before putting anything in it. This Hobo is practical for everyday use and chic too.  I like that the signature Burberry check is discreetly printed tone-on-tone on the nylon portion of the bag making it noticeable only when observed closely. I feel that Burberry has over-exhausted the appeal of its check over the past few seasons but it is still what most people like about the brand too so this bag is a perfect balance for both sides. The price is not bad for a relatively non-basic Burberry bag either. Available at Nordstrom for USD895. The featured color is called Stone white, check out the pretty nice black color version too!

Chloé Shelby Shopper

Hello Gorgeous! I rarely call a bag so but when it is, i do. Chloé hit it again with Shelby! I have not reached the decline of highly-recommending the Paraty and Andy bags yet and now with Shelby, i will just send anyone who is asking for bag recommendations to the nearest Chloé store. Afterall, how wrong can you go? Shelby is also available in black and ‘Curcuma’ (fancy name for a color which looks like a slightly darker shade of mustard) but this Pink Berry is undeniably the most stunning. Available by pre-order only at Nordstrom for USD2,175. Quantity is limited and i am pretty sure is selling well right now.

Marni Printed Canvas Tote

If you are not into the Bottega Veneta Ponza Fabric Shopper there is a good alternative to the bag from Marni for Resort 2009. The Marni printed canvas tote is priced at USD600, which is almost half the price of the Bottega tote and in my opinion, the flowery print is more attractive than the Interwoven print. Best thing is this tote is lined with nylon so it is sort of water-proof inside and has drawstring top which covers the whole bag, making it more secured from things faling off the bag or preying hands. This is a good deal for a Marni bag. Get  one from net-a-porter or your nearest Marni boutique.

Jimmy Choo Monna Large Resort 2009

Jimmy Choo is one of the very few shoe designers who managed to cross over seamlessly and make it well in the world of handbags. The Monna tote might not have been as famous as its predecessor, Ramona but i actually like it better. The shape is simple but the design is still glam, the way any Jimmy Choos should be. For Resort 2009, there is neon green Monna tote in large size. I was already loving the design, material wise, the whole bag is made of smooth leather and rich suede combo (i have soft spot for leather) and now in this color, this bag will just get stuck in my head for a while. Should I? If you can’t resist it already, pre-order this at nordstrom.com for USD1,995.

Yay or Nay – Bottega Veneta Ponza Fabric Shopper

When you could not have the real thing, you figure out a way to have it the other way, no? Apparently the folks at Bottega Veneta believe so and so they created the Ponza Fabric Shopper. BV is known best for its Interwoven leather bags but with such much-needed craftmanship and materials, the prices of their bags had to start from at least USD1,500 – not everyone could afford one. Seemingly, the other way to have it turns out to be by printing the woven pattern on a canvas. Maybe it is the time too, the way i see it, the house has finally given up to the temptation of appealing to the more mass market clientele. This piece is however still not really cheap at USD1,1,20 from barneys.com although it might make a good resort bag too. Would you get this Bottega Veneta shopper or would rather save up more for the real thing? Yay or Nay?

Coach Resort Leather Shoulder Tote

This is not a typical Coach bag and it is not a bad thing at all. Gone is the signature CC pattern which has become tired after a while, replaced by soft leather in palatable color such as this shade of pink. Do not get me wrong, I have always been a fan of Coach and realize that they have improved even further with its new models over the past few months (man…they launch new models almost every month- talking about overwhelming the market) but having a model so different from their previous or current ones for Resort 2009 is a much needed breathe of fresh air for the brand. The only thing that might have given this bag away as Coach is the gusset on both the side pockets of the bag. Other than that, this looks more  like an edgy new designer handbag. I expect to see this bag in the good book of many stylish people. Get from your nearest Coach store or coach.com for USD598.

Bottega Veneta Boston Bag

Even Tomas Maier in the mighty house of Bottega Veneta could not get it right all the time, every time. Which he has led us to believe possible following his seasons after seasons of lust-worthy bags that put logo-craze to stop.

There are a few bags in the latest cruise 2009 collection which i will not approve. Frankly, they are still nowhere as bad as what Fendi has become for the last few seasons but for the price point Bottega sets for their bags, i think we could do better than the Cobalt Gorgiera Boston bag which costs a jaw-dropping USD 5,860 (left). I acknowledge the extensive hours of workmanship being put into the creation of this bag but no matter how hard i try, the only good thing i could see about this bag is the delicious Cobalt color and if i really have to have that, i would rather go with the classic Intreciatto Nappa Capri in the same shade for USD 2,960 (right) and put the balance of my money into some better use. How about you? Would you rather spend the 6 Grands on one piece which might be on sale a few months from now?

Chanel 2.55 Cruise 2009

The idea behind getting an investment-piece handbag which normally costs a few grands a pop is to limit the purchase to only one since bags of this class are normally classic, versatile enough for any possible occassions yet still chic, elegant and “in” all the time. Chanel is not good at playing fairly. Be prepared to be lured by beautiful pieces from Chanel for cruise 2009, especially in the form on the classic 2.55 but in most elegant, sweet and irresistible pink. If you ever need a pink bag, this one should be it. But with Chanel, could you ever really stop at one?

Prada Cervo Lux Print Bowler

I first saw this bag when i was shopping in Prada Avenue Montaigne, Paris last month. It was not on the display, rather it was being used by a girl who was shopping with a group of friends. I remember the bag very vividly because i liked it very much. While the bowler shape is standard, the combo of pink leather, black lace and gloss coating just does it all - it is unique, elegant, classy and striking at the same time. The bag turns out to be part of resort 2009 collection. Clearly by last month, the bag was not available for purchase yet so i believe the girl had got it early through VIP status one way or another. Anyway, the bag is still gorgeous by now and i can assure you that it will remain gorgeous and unique. It is the first Prada bag in the lace series that appeals so strongly to me. Buy from neimanmarcus.com at USD2,350.

Bottega Veneta Satin Intrecciato Box Clutch

One of the signature products of the Italian luxury house, Bottega Veneta is its Woven Box Clutch which has been reissued in various colours and finishings every season. The satin version of this clutch was introduced by the house ealier this year and for cruise 2009 collection, the clutch has been issued in two colors- apple green and orange. While the orange is passable, the apple green is stunning. The only problem is the price is still as steep, especially for a product with minimal leather by a luxury house known best for its leather products. Nevertheless, If you still can’t resist the temptation, this beauty is available at net-a-porter.com for USD1,150.
