Pre-owned Prada Alligator Doctor Bag

When there are limited exciting new bags to talk about, it is time to turn to good condition pre-owned bags. Like watches or dresses, vintage bags have become more and more popular, especially those in classic design and limited edition. This hot ruby red Prada alligator doctor bag is a perfect example of a great pre-loved bag that could become a staple piece in your wardrobe. Price is steep at USD4,000 but it should have retailed at at least USD8,000 when new. Avaiable at fashionphile.com.

Limited Edition Louis Vuitton Ostrich Speedy 30

The Speedy might be one of the most basic (and most affordable) of Louis Vuitton bags but it happens to be the most iconic and timeless as well. I have never seen this bag in real life before but I do know that you could make order limited edition bags with Louis Vuitton when you are one of their VIPs. This full Ostrich Speedy 30 is made entirely of Ostrich skin and it is beautiful! However unlike the canvas version, the main body of the bag is made of two pieces of leather joined at the bottom of the bag rather than a single piece (you now what I mean if you own a Speedy and are observant). I guess it is not easy to get a large piece of Ostrich leather with the perfect lumps all over but the joining at the bottom also adds a good support the canvas versions normally lack. Anyhow, while it is beautiful, the price is exorbitant at USD12,600 for a pre-owned Speedy 30. If you are an avid Vuitton collector and USD12,600 is just a small percentage of your regular shopping budget then go to fashionphile.com now!

Askme – Buying a pre-owned bag?

Hi Purseholic

Love your blog for the fabulous feeds on bags. Thank you very much.

I want to hear your thoughts on purchasing pre-owned bags. I found a discontinued Louis Vuitton bag that I have been looking for on the fashionphile.com and is seriously considering buying it now. What do you think?

Jenn, NYC

Hi Jenn

Depending on the circumstances and the condition of the bag in question. Generally I will approve if it is a discontinued item you have an emotional attachment to but for some reason missed it while they were still available in stores. Then again, I think the condition of the bag and the offer price play important part too. I myself missed the Louis Vuitton Monogram Bequia Porte document in Bordeaux (S/S2007) and Gucci New Jackie in military green GG canvas, which I still could not locate til now so in your case, if the price is right, and the condition of the bag is good, go ahead by all means!

One more thing to take note is the reliability of the seller. If you are getting from ebay, make sure the seller is reputable and ask for more pictures. Fashionphile and Yoogi’s Closet in the US are reliable sellers.

Congratulations, by the way. It is a call for celebration! =)

Chanel Leather Sloane Square Tote

This Chanel tote is not new. In fact, the one featured here is a pre-owned piece but an interesting Chanel bag that is not the classic flap is always worth mentioning (or in this case, blogging). This bag is available at fashionphile.com for USD2,495 now. Not sure whether there is still a new piece available in any Chanel store near to you but that is a good price for such a rare Chanel tote.

Louis Vuitton Cherry Blossom Satin Amarene

This is a highly limited edition Louis Vuitton Cherry Blossom bag I had no idea it exists to begin with until now. The bag was only made available to Louis Vuitton VIP clients but apparently one of them has decided to let it go. I dun think the bag is fantastically fabulous but owning a highly limited piece of a Vuitton bag is a novelty by itself to any Louis Vuitton avid collectors. The bag is available at Fashionphile now for USD1,350. The bag has silver python trims which is kind of mismatching with the satin Monogram Cherry Blossom. It would have been better if the trims were in gold, don’t you think?

Hermes Pony Hair Kelly 32 Troika Handbag

As precious and rare as they are, Kelly bags in crocs and ostrich skins are somehow commoditized these days in the arms of rich but unclassy celebs like Britney Spears and Paris Hilton. This is a beautiful, classy and very rare Hermes Kelly, made of Pony Hair. The bag is pre-owned and is available at fashionphile.com now. If you are looking for a special Kelly, I will say, take this one now. The price is not ridiculous at USD7,250 either. Trust me, it is worth it! I have seen and touched a Kelly in Crocs and Ostrichs, but not this one.

Gucci Horsebit Clutch

One of the most iconic legacies of Tom Ford’s era in Gucci is this beautiful horsebit clutch that is no longer in production. My cousin has one in brown Gucci GG fabric, i think it is stunning and very quintesentially Gucci with this glam styling. This is a pre-owned piece available at Fashionphile. At USD450 in such a good condition still, I think it is worth snatching away soon. What could be a better way to own a Tom Ford’s Gucci piece?

Hermes Kelly 28 in Tan Ostrich

Everything in natural shades such as nude, tan, brown, cognac or earth will be in for Fall/Winter 2009 so bring out your tan Burberry trench or those old tinted brown Rayban Aviator shades. If you happen to be an avid collector of rare Hermes bags, this should make it onto your list. The bag is pre-owned and hence the ostrich skin has darkened slightly, which I would normally call forming a character. This beautiful bag is priced at USD14,500 at Fashionphile.

Gucci Peggy Python in Gold

Fashionphile offers pre-loved bags so hot, it makes buying second-hand bags look cool and smart nowadays. Look at it this way: you will never know what you will find, the prices will mostly be irresistible and carrying a limited edition past season bag is no longer fashion passe if you know what to get. Take this gorgeous Python Peggy bag in Gold from Gucci for instance – it is not a classic Gucci bag one would expect yet it has the iconic element of the brand (the bamboo) and the gorgeous python leather that looks like a million bucks. Price is also excellent at USD1,345, down from the original USD3,190. It is like if you need only one gold bag, why not get it in gorgeous python from Gucci?
