Fendi Baguette Revisited – Will You Love Again?

In the February issue of US Vogue, Plum Sykes wrote about her original love for the original “It” bag back in the 90s – The Fendi Baguette. Fendi will be bringing back 6 of its most iconic Baguette bags this Spring. After trying on the three bags Fendi sent to her, Sykes finally decided that the Baguette will be relevant again this Spring so it does not hurt to review some of the currently available Baguettes again, just in case it goes “It” and unattainable again in a few months. The two pieces that I love the most in the current line-up are the beaded multicolor version (left, price is USD2,680) and the strawberry red leather version (right, price is USD1,260). Will you fall in love again with the arguably, your first love with bags?

Fendi Crackled Suede Baguette

Fendi Baguette is widely known as the original IT bag. It was the first bag that everybody MUST own to be regarded as stylish, fashionable or simply non-primitive. After existing for more than a decade and created in hundreds of reincarnation, I can still see the appeal of the Baguette when it is done right. This version is surely one. I am not a big fan of suede bags but Fendi seems to have found a way to make it metallic and crackled, creating texture similar to stingray skin without its rigidity for this Baguette. The price is USD990 and it is available in four colors to choose from: pink, blue, gold and silver.

Fendi Spring/Summer 2012 Bags

I generally like the Fendi Spring/Summer 2012 collection. It is colorful, quirky, fun, casual, exactly how the season should be. The bags are not disappointing either despite not being outstanding. I am feeling the new tote/shoulder bag with drawstring bag inside. There are also clutches made of embroidery and fur, which are fun but won’t last you beyond the season. Finally, the Silvana bag is made of ratan. Not sure how I really feel about the last one.

Fendi Silvana in Stingray and Buffalo Leather

Growing up in a country like Indonesia where stingray skin is abundant automatically makes me disregard it as an exotic skin. Truth to be told, the natural texture of stingray skin is as nice as lizard or snakeskin and it is indeed tougher and thicker too. Despite its beauty, too much of stingray skin on one bag can be overwhelming making it looking heavy and tiring. This Fendi Silvana bag showcases the perfect use of stingray skin, subtly combined with buffalo skin, which texture is quite similar but looking and feeling softer. Price of this baby is USD3,070 and is available for pre-order at Saks.com.

Fendi Selleria Boston Bag

The summer is officially here and the heat is unbearable! It is time to bring out your white cotton shirt and pair it with a green mini short with a patent fuchsia belt and cobalt blue sandal. For the bag? Nothing is as perfect as this yellow Fendi Selleria Boston bag. You need something bright, roomy and light as the bag for summer dressing and this baby just ticks all the boxes. The Selleria Boston is available in small and medium sizes in every hot color of the season. Get it from Barneys for USD1,630 (for medium) or USD1.520 (for small).

Selleria Braid Handle Hobo Bag

I am glad that Fendi seems to have started acknowledging that in order to maintain its brand prestige, it can no longer rely just on its signature FF fabric or canvas for its leather goods because at one point of time, people will start asking, “where on the bag is the leather?”. The Fendi Selleria leather is Fendi’s signature leather and I LOVE it in white on this bag, with its decorative gold stitching on the body and that braided leather handle, which is like the icing on a cake. Priced at USD1,560, I am pretty sure that Fendi has dropped the price of its Selleria range because they used to be the premium range for Fendi and prices did not start below two grands mark. It is good news to me and hence great news to you, leather lover! Now go grab that bag!

Fendi Washed Calfskin Cut-out ‘F’ Tote

I saw this tote on display in the Marina Bay Sands last month and it has been haunting me ever since.  Then again, what is there not to like really? The whole bag, including the detachable shoulder strap and the additional zip pouch inside is made of washed calfskin. The design of the bag is simplistic yet handsome and very classy, making it somewhat anti-trendy too. Best of all, for such a bag, Fendi is just charging USD950! I can’t believe my eyes when I saw the price and on bluefly.com, there is even further 20% off, making it only USD760! I am no longer in a market for a new bag now but if I were, this would have been the first to go with.

Go Crazy with Fendi Multicolor Zucca Tote

It has been, what I would describe as, one of the most boring period of time in the bag industry over the last few years. For the past few weeks, I have posted all the bags worth talking about and seriously, I am running of bags to speak of. There is no single newly design bag from any house that takes my breathe away! What on earth is going on with the bag industry? Are all the top design houses reaching the point of zero innovation? Everyone seems to just issue their old bags in new colors.

It has been a long time since I last spoke of the Fendi Zucca but this is the closest thing that grabs my attention and appropriate for the season now. What I like? The colorful FF canvas and the fact that it is coated so it is water resistant and could take beatings and due to its material, it is a lightweight bag too. What I don’t like about this bag is… it is an old bag design in new color yet again! Available at Reebonz.com for SGD899 now til 60 hours later. Grab it now if you like because it will cost SGD1,080 in the stores.

Fendi Colorblock Crossbody Bag

Nobody does trendy and IT bags like the house of Fendi. Combining two biggest trend of the season – small shoulder flap bag and colorblocks, Fendi’s latest offering might be THE only bag you need for the entire Spring and Summer of 2011. Do I like this bag? Generally I am not a sucker for a shoulder flap bag but it is a cute bag to own for this season so if you happen to be a trendy dresser, this item is a must-have! Price is USD1,680.
