Fendi Baguette Revisited – Will You Love Again?

In the February issue of US Vogue, Plum Sykes wrote about her original love for the original “It” bag back in the 90s – The Fendi Baguette. Fendi will be bringing back 6 of its most iconic Baguette bags this Spring. After trying on the three bags Fendi sent to her, Sykes finally decided that the Baguette will be relevant again this Spring so it does not hurt to review some of the currently available Baguettes again, just in case it goes “It” and unattainable again in a few months. The two pieces that I love the most in the current line-up are the beaded multicolor version (left, price is USD2,680) and the strawberry red leather version (right, price is USD1,260). Will you fall in love again with the arguably, your first love with bags?

Fendi Crackled Suede Baguette

Fendi Baguette is widely known as the original IT bag. It was the first bag that everybody MUST own to be regarded as stylish, fashionable or simply non-primitive. After existing for more than a decade and created in hundreds of reincarnation, I can still see the appeal of the Baguette when it is done right. This version is surely one. I am not a big fan of suede bags but Fendi seems to have found a way to make it metallic and crackled, creating texture similar to stingray skin without its rigidity for this Baguette. The price is USD990 and it is available in four colors to choose from: pink, blue, gold and silver.

Fendi Studded Leather Baguette

The Baguette is the original “It” bag of all time and is the pride of the house of Fendi. Studs were hot a season ago but I am not very sure they are now so Fendi might be a little late catching up with that. Having said that, this Baguette is made entirely of calfskin with studs and it is classic and edgy at the same time so I think despite the fact that it is studded, it would last longer than just a short-lived trend. If you like the classic Baguette but want something more rocker chic or glamorous, get this from Bergdorf Goodman for USD995.

Fendi Baguette Raffia Shoulder Bag

Our family just adores Fendi but this is not the first time I condemn it for being able to pull of Raffia bag with price tag of almost USD2,000. Who the hell in this world going to buy this? Apparently many because it is now sold out as soon as it is available at the net-a-porter.com The Baguette is classic, I know and Dee loves her classic Zucca Baguette to the core, it is her favorite bag but I still have a hard time buying the idea that people would snatch a Raffia bag for 2 Grands. Blame it on my Indonesian origin. Raffias and Ratans are uber cheap there.
