Gucci Secret Medium Hobo

I have secretly and subconsciously been eyeing this Gucci hobo bag for a few weeks now. At the first sight, it was okay, not iconic like the New Jackie but upon further and closer look, it just grows on me. The GG fabric in color sand looks way better than the classic brown playing background to the dark brown leather trims, including some croc patches which should have jacked up the price ridiculously. Nevertheless the croc skin texture adds the much needed extra touch to the bag, making it looks more elegant and far more expensive. At GBP1,590, it is not exactly cheap but at least this bag looks classy and worth the money. The size is big enough to be a man-hobo too.

Gucci New Bamboo Bag

Gucci reinvented its iconic Jackie last year by blowing it up and calling it the New Jackie. The bag makes an instant hit, so it is about time it reinvents the other Gucci classic bag, the Bamboo. For its Spring/Summer 2010, the New Bamboo comes in two sizes (small and large) and with a detachable shoulder strap. The problem with the Bamboo bag was its relatively small size so the large version sort of solves that. Like the New Jackies, the entry version of the bag in GG canvas is priced at USD1,890 and it goes up to USD2,350 for the leather version (as featured here) and way up to USD15,500 for the crocodile version. While classic and iconic, I am not exactly thrilled by this bag. There is something missing with it, which is the X-factor. Gucci bags are getting tired lately and even the New Bamboo can’t do much to turn that around.
