Prada Saffiano Antik Bag

I have been looking around for my next bag and it is getting more difficult with age. Seriously, my taste has evolved so much that spending a few grands on a bag means I have to be sure that I will still like the bag even in a few years’ time and that it still looks age-appropriate when I get older. Yet, I need the bag to  be unique, not loud or crazy but something that grabs attention for its little details or a healthy dose of quirkiness (I like). After screening many bags from the Man Bag collection Fall/Winter 2010, one that makes the cut is this Prada Saffiano Antik bag. It is classic black Saffiano Prada bag but the slight distressing and coloration on the leather makes it unique and standout from its classic cousins. Furthermore, Prada runway bags are usually highly limited and I don’t have a black bag like this yet. The only problem is that the  price tag is more than SGD3,000 in Singapore and I am not supposed to buy another bag anymore until next year. Then again, it is coming to December soon so we see what the Christmas brings about, shall we?

Loewe Men’s Travel Bag

It is not an eye popping bag but it is an embodiment of a Loewe product – timeless design, quality material and impeccable workmanship. A man has to let go of that Nike or Adidas travel bag he adores to the core in the high school and moves on to a classic travel bag in one time of his life and besides that classic Vuitton Keepall, this is a worthy handsome alternative. Available in Loewe stores for GBP925.

Bottega Veneta Briefcase

Nothing flashy, only classic shape men’s briefcase with superior quality leather and impeccable workmanship. This is all a true gentleman will need to pull off a stylish and fuss-free look. Price is around USD3,100 in your nearest Bottega Veneta stores.

D&G Stud Logo Tote

Alexander Wang has not answered my call on making a manbag out of his Rocco but Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana seem to try to compensate it by creating a beautiful full leather tote which looks like a normal tote until you see the bottom of the bag and voila!! What studs are those and this might just be the best way to display a logo on a bag without compromising elegance and subtlety! Now just to add a scope of vanila ice cream to a warm lava cake, the price is USD595, which is insanely irresistible for a full leather, made in Italy D&G tote. Now there are two problems only – I am not looking for another black tote as I have already owned a few totes and black bag so it is not for me but hey! This one is surely a catch. Pre-order from Neiman Marcus for shipment by July.

Gucci Summer Sale Top Three Picks

The Gucci Summer Sales has started at US gucci.com. I have to say that the sale is not as exciting as it was a few years back despite the fact that some of the New Jackie bags are on sale too this season. My top three picks of the pack:

Gucci full leather script briefcase going at USD1,019, down from USD1,695.

Gucci Icon Bit Medium in full leather going for USD1,169, down from USD1,950. Simple, elegant and the iconic Gucci horsebit touch is just right.

Finally, the Gucci Jockey Hobo, which is one of the best Gucci bags I have seen over the past few seasons. This is an excellent deal going at only USD949 now.

Askme – Bags on My Wish List

Hi Purseholic

Just curious, what are the bags on your wish list now?

Jay, Singapore

Hi Jay

I don’t wish to burst your bubble but honestly there is not any one bag high on my wish list for now. Blame it to the designers who, in my opinion, have been slacking on the man bag department lately. For the next season, however, there are some bags that might trip me back into love.

Gucci Unisex Hobo bag for Fall/Winter 2010

Gucci Fall/Winter 2010 promises the return of the unisex Hobo bag. Like the Jackie and the Bamboo, the Hobo is one of the house’s most iconic bags, made popular mostly by Peter Sellers. I have been waiting for Frida to bring this back into Gucci collection for a few years now and this is exciting me. I just hope it comes in a leather version instead of just the suede version because Singapore climate is just not forgiving to suede.

Givenchy Biker Bag Nightingale

Another bag I am coveting is the Givenchy Nightingale, which reached its IT status thanks to the Olsen twins but is now the house’s staple bag. Givenchy made the man bag out of the classic starting this year with at least two variations for its men’s Fall/Winter 2010 collection.  I have not seen the bags in person so I am not sure whether it stands well to the original. However, even if it does not suit my taste eventually, I might just get the large version of the original. Givenchy is opening in Paragon Singapore soon and hopefully it satisfies the society’s cravings for the Nightingale.

Tod’s D Bag Bauletto

Of course, there are also some women bags that I love so much I hope the designers would have the sensibility to pick up the cues and come up with the man bag. If the bag is not girly to begin with and it could be a man bag just by blowing it up, why not? I am talking to Alexander Wang for the Rocco bag and Derek Lam for the Tod’s D Bag Bauletto here.

Hermes HAC 40 in black Clemence

Lastly, there are some classic bags on my list but they will wait simply because: one, I still have not got the moolah to spare and two, I still have other priorities in life (more  holidays, more properties, cars, watches and art pieces, to name a few). Those babies are the Loewe Amazona 44 in dark green Ostrich and Hermes Birkin 40/HAC 40 in navy blue Fjord.

Just FYI… if you happen to be feeling generous, I will take any one of the above any time.

Mulberry Oliver Computer Bag

Men, are you tired and embarrassed by your nylon computer bag? The fact of life is, you should be if it were not at least, Tumi. Fret not since there is a cool bag that is still manly enough and does not come from big names like Louis Vuitton, Gucci or Prada which some of you find threatening your masculinity. Mulberry is a respected British brand with strong leather heritage and this computer bag looks more like a classic piece of work. The price is also reasonable at USD1,195, if you are looking for a quality bag to last you for years and looking classy, look no further!

Alexander Wang Jodi Button Top Carryall

Oh…. I am swooning all over the Alexander Wang Rocco bag now and if only he makes the bigger version for men, I would definitely snatch one as soon as it is out! Until then, this Jodi Button carryall is quite a worthy consolation prize and is big enough to be a man bag too. The shape is not avant-garde like the Rocco itself but there are details that make it interesting like the studded bottom in the Rocco and in the Jodi Button, it is the Buttoned flap covering the top zip. I am still hopping for the big Rocco but if I have to get a white bag soon, this is it! Available exclusively at Barneys for USD820.
