Nina Ricci Bag Collection On On Pedder

We featured a bag from Olivier Theysken’s last collection for Nina Ricci carried by Uma Thurman last month and since then I have been on pursuit of more bags from the house. On Pedder brings in the immaculate bag collection that, in my opinion, should make the house re-deliberate on their decision of letting Theysken go. The bags, as far as what I am seeing here, are AWESOME!!! Theysken must be a romantic person as his works are definitely so. Stay tune for more features on Nina Ricci.

Uma Thurman with Nina Ricci Bag

Just when i was wondering, “where is Uma Thurman now that Madonna is the face of Louis Vuitton like she used to be a couple of years ago?”, here she is looking more stunning than i remember. Hanging across her body is what i categorize as one of those collectible pieces in fashion history. Uma’s bag is from Olivier Theysken’s last collection for Nina Ricci and is the only bag he had designed during his 2-year tenure with the house. Despite being one of the most critically acclaimed young designers today (plus endorsed by Anna Wintour herself), Theysken has failed to commercially revive Nina Ricci to what Nicolas Ghesquiere has done with Balenciaga.

For what it’s worth, Theysken is a brilliant designer. The only problem with him, and i think many will agree with me on this, is his lack of commercial sense and his underestimating the importance of accessories like bags (especially bags) in a collection to drive a brand to a critical mass success. After Rochas and Nina Ricci, i hope he is bringing the lesson to wherever he is going next. Nina Ricci is one of several brands i grew up admiring so i also hope Peter Copping (ex Vuitton) could revive the house to its glory state. Back to the bag: I like this bag for its romantic design which is very much within the essence of Theysken’s Nina Ricci. I also like the fact that Uma is making the bag part of such a casual yet classy outfit. Barneys is carrying the Pony version of this bag and selling at USD2,800.
