Burberry Small Rafia Tote

With the Pound Sterling reaching a new low, Britain has never been more attractive to visit. Think of London and its distinct features such the London cab, the red phone booth, the London Bridge, the Palace, the London eye and of course, Burberry. The 153 years old company has enjoyed rapid growth and enormous success for the past 8 years ever since Christopher Bailey took over the post of Creative Director of the house in 2001 and revamped its image from an old and classic trench coat company to the Brit’s most powerful fashion and luxury house . With the Pound Sterling being more affordable than ever to some other currencies, there has never been a better time to get our hands on a piece of the house’s signature check.

This tote made of Rafia patchworks is unique and classy with the roughness  of the material that gives it an edge to the bag. The Burberry bag collection for the Spring 2009 is pretty interesting and this is one of the more outstanding pieces. The bag is priced at £695 in the UK. Check out Burberry.com for the complete collection. There is one more reason to visit UK this year!

Coach Bonnie Cashin Collection

For the Spring 2009, Coach launched a Bonnie Cashin collection, paying tribute to its late former designer, Ms Bonnie Cashin. Cashin was the one who launched the women accesories division for Coach back to 1962 and created a few iconic products for the brand especially leather products in colors such as pink, green and yellow and bags with external coin pouch. The collection consists of 14 designs of totes, framed bags and clutches. I particularly like this jeweled canvas caryall, retailing at USD698. Check out the full collection online at coach.com.

Louis Vuitton Monogram Epices Kalahari

What did i say about the Vuitton Kalahari in the embossed Monogram leather version being more interesting than the Monogram canvas version? Look at this bag and see how much more gorgeous it is, especially in this  beautiful color (called Safran). The collection and the colors of the leather are inspired by spices. Besides Safran, there are Masala (clay color) and Paprika (maroon color) colors too which in my opinion are interesting too but not as breath-taking as this Safran.

One thing remains the same as the Monogram canvas version – the smaller version (PM) still looks way better than the clumsy GM version. Prices are around USD4,800 and USD5,800 for PM and GM respectively.

Burberry Nylon Tote

For luxury brands, balancing between brand prestige and revenue is a delicate effort. Is it only me or it is real that Burberry’s strategy is to launch one cheaper bag annually? Remember the canvas fold-up tote last year that almost everyone i know have at least one? This year is this drawstring nylon that is available in many colors (at least 5 or 6). The bag is plain on the outside which is not bad and it opens to the Burberry signature Nova check most of us buy into the brand for. This bag is perfect for daily use or as a gift too. Get one from your nearest Burberry store or at saks for USD195.

Louis Vuitton Monogram Canvas Kalahari

Louis Vuitton African-inspired Spring/ Summer 2009 collection might be the most anticipated collection this season. We are talking about killer shoes and accessories but the bags? So far, i am not sky-highly impressed. The Kalahari in Monogram Canvas is the first piece to be released. The bag is fun but in a  not-very good way reminds me of Monogram Canvas knock-offs. So far, any limited Monogram Canvas collection has always sold-out and became highly sought after when the season is over but in times like this, will people still splurge on what i call “vanity” bags? The Monogram Canvas Kalahari comes in PM  (left) and GM (right) sizes and priced at USD2,260 and USD3,390 each. I look forward to seeing the leather version (the one featured in Madonna’s ad) in more details. That one could be more exciting.

The Gems from Prada and Miu Miu

The Spring/ Summer 2009 bags from Prada and Miu Miu are generally pretty exciting. Some of the bags have the quality to be a keeper and that is what we need in times like this. I particularly like the three Miu Miu bags on the top row but the Pradas are outstanding too.

Top (from left, Miu Miu): Phyton Shoulder (USD3,950), Ruched Bag (USD1,520), Wooden Handle (USD1,395)

Middle (from left, Prada): Cervo Bowler (USD2,290), Nappa Tote (USD1,350), Pitone Messenger (USD2,2,95)

Bottom (from Left, Prada): Pitone Shoulder (USD1,895),  Pitone Tote (USD995), Pietre Evening Bag (USD1,395)

Marc Jacobs Robert Jennifer Shoulder Bag

Hello pretty! I have become pretty suspicious of Marc Jacob’s Spring/ Summer 2009 bag collection after my most recent post on the Amazon shoulder bag but this bag is totally different in a very very good way. Simple flap bags like this have been making a come-back with big designers (see Lanvin and Dior) and this Marc’s piece is easily a winner. You see the purple and green metallic details woven onto the quilted leather? Those are actually leather! How interesting is that? This bag is perfect – pretty, interesting, trendy and the tassels and the padlock work without making the whole bag look overdecorated. This is the hottest piece of Marc Jacobs bag i have seen so far for this season. Available at eluxury.com now for USD1,995. Well done, Marc!
