Congratulations on your new job. When it comes to traveling in style, nothing beats Louis Vuitton for its heritage and durability. For your height, the Keepall 50 would be suitable. Get it either in Monogram Canvas or Damier Canvas Ebony (more low-maintenance with the leather parts). You could personalize the luggage tag with your initials (up to 3 letters) without any additional charge. The one within your budget is without shoulder strap at USD985 while the one with shoulder strap is priced at USD1,245 which i recommend more if you are willing to stretch your budget a little.
Another option worth considering is the Burberry signature haymarket check travel bag in medium. The size is about the same as the Keepall 50. Burberry might not have established the same reputation as Vuitton on luxury travel gears but knowing the brand, quality and durability is not an issue. I had a chance of testing the bag myself and have to say that i am loving it. The price for the Burberry travel bag is USD795 and it comes in with nylon shoulder strap.
