Derek Lam Ume Mini Bag

A mini messenger bag is one of the hottest must-haves lately and it seems to be going nowhere anytime soon. Once a girl has managed to squeeze all that she needs into that mini bag, she would wonder why she ever needed a big tote that kills her arms and shoulders every time she carries it so the mini is becoming a staple. There are many mini bags to choose from different houses nowadays with the Hermes Constance (starting from USD4,000) and the Celine Box bag (starting from USD2,500) leading the pack but I have always found the price for both the bags ridiculous for its size so this new offer from Derek Lam is an extremely good buy if you happen to be in the market for such bags. It is currently available in black and white at Saks. Derek is an Aries so it is fitting for him to put ram heads as decoration onto a bag from his namesake label. The price? USD590, which is worth buying in both colors, if you ask me.

Fall 2010 Bag Preview

Singapore is not a bad place to live in except for the weather which is either hot and humid or raining. Can’t it just be, for once, nice? Yet before I get attacked by readers who would kill for weather like Singapore’s, I am not complaining, just pondering. Anyway, now that the summer is around, Fall 2010 bags are up for preview too. There are some new creations which is excellent remembering that designers have been pretty lazy for the past few seasons just playing variations on their existing design.

Derek Lam Nadia Hobo

Not exactly ground-breaking kind of hobo but this Derek Lam hobo surely is edgier than most of the typical hobo bags these days. The design is clean and simple too making it versatile enough to go from day to eve. The Nadia is available at Shopbop.com for USD1,090. The price, is in my opinion about 10% more than it should have been.

Kate Moss with Derek Lam Elsa Clutch

It is official that Derek Lam is a HUGE designer now. If you were a designer and Ms Moss is seen carrying or wearing something you design, that means you have finally arrived! We featured Derek Lam Albertine clutch which is elegantly gorgeous but the Elsa python clutch in this beautiful blue hue is a notch-up gorgeous and I will not miss saying that at USD1,450, this python clutch is the hottest single item you have to own this season. Barneys is carrying the oatmeal color now, pre-order for the other colors. And as usual, Kate is stunning in this picture, but that is given.

With both Tod’s and Derek Lam (The brand) under his creative directing, he is definitely influencing what to wear and carry for every season, yet Lam works best with classics, which might be the reason he got that job at Tod’s to begin with. Look at this fabulous clutch from his own’s brand, Derek Lam. This is a true classic with a twist that works perfectly now and forever. Love how that extra zipped compartment provides the twist and the tassel is appropriate too. Available at Barneys for only USD690 for a full-leather, made in Italy clutch. This is a treasure to collect.
