Gucci Diana Bamboo Bag

Fresh from its Cruise 2012 collection, Gucci finally re-issued the Bamboo bag made wildly successful by the late Princess Diana when she was spotted carrying it back in the 1990s. Lady D is without a doubt one of the biggest fashion icons we have and she did already have two iconic bags named after her (Tod’s D bag and Dior’s Lady bag). I am glad Frida Gianini did nothing to update this bag as some classics are meant to be left as it is. By the way, this blue color looks phenomenal to me. This classic piece is priced at USD2,150 and this color is readily available at saks.com.

Gucci Soho Hobo Bag

Gucci owes its revival to super sexed up dresses, killer stilettos and show-stopping bags that Tom Ford created back in the 90s. I still think Frida Giannini did a great job at Gucci and the sales numbers show likewise too but over the past few years Gucci bags have become somewhat too readily available, more tacky than cool, thanks to the abusing of its GG fabric on its cheap bags. I was pleasantly surprised over this Soho hobo bag. It reminds me of why I fell in love with Gucci (and paved my way to many other designer brands) to begin with. The bag carries a whole loads of coolness, aloofness and attitude that has been missing from most Gucci bags for a long time. If the hot red is too much for you, it also comes in black and white colors and I think they are winners too. Price is USD1,750 at Gucci stores.

Gucci 1921 Horsebit Shoulder Flap Bag

The horsebit flap was one of the biggest hit bags for Gucci during Tom Ford’s reign. I think Gucci should have kept it as part of their classic line-up but for some reason, they did not. I am glad Frida Giannini decided to include this as part of Gucci 1921 collection, a small limited edition collection to commemorate the house’s 90th anniversary. The flap bag is available in smooth leather in 5 choices of color (dark green, cherry, winter leaf, khaki and antique rose) and in crocodile skin. Price is USD1,490 for the leather version and USD9,700 for the croc version.

Gucci Zoo Handbag for Little Girls

I don’t know how I exactly feel about the idea of buying a child a USD495 bag from Gucci. As cute as it is in the shape of a piggy (or is that a mouse?), it still feels very wrong to give a child a Gucci bag that early in her life. I started admiring designers’ creation as early as age 13 but I only got my first bag at the age of 20, which I think is  the minimum decent age to start owning; definitely NOT before turning 10. Having said that, I can remotely understand that sometimes mommy runs out of place on herself or daddy to accessorize and splurge on so this USD495 bag could suddenly appear ridiculously cute for the baby girl. I can imagine my dear 3-year old niece liking this, actually.

Gucci Foldable Business Portfolio

This is something unique, simple, functional and stylish all together. It is a clutch when it is folded, it is a briefcase when not and if you push the handle down flat, you get an oversize clutch, which is very trendy with guys in Milan at the moment. Three styles in one bag is a rare thing for Gucci and for the first in a very long time, I see a little Hermes-like creativity with Gucci. Price is SGD2,600 if you order it from saks.com but should be over SGD3,000 in Gucci stores in Singapore.

Gucci Personalized Classic Duffel for Men

Fresh from the Fall 2011 collection, the classic duffel bag from Gucci bears your own personalized initials. If you think about it, what is so luxurious about putting someone else’s initial on a bag that you pay a few grands for? The new vintage-inspired collection of bags from Gucci sets to change that and put your very own initial on instead and this duffel is clearly as timeless and classically handsome as Sean Connery or Clarke Gable. Price is USD2,580 from saks.com.

Gucci 1973 Shoulder Flap Bag

Classically beautiful with superb vintage appeal and luxurious touch of classiness is how I would describe this flap bag from Gucci. I know we are only half way into the year but this could simply be in the top 5 of this year’s hottest bags. Price starts from USD2,100 for the leather version, USD2,900 for this python version (which I think is a steal!), USD3,550 for the lizard skin version and of course USD12,800 for the croco version.
