Shoppe the Hermes Kelly Double Tour (in Tosca)

The Kelly Double Tour bracelet is one of the most iconic leather accessories in the universe of Hermes. If you have owned the ones in classic colors like black, etoupe, chocolate or gold then you would know that Hermes always sold out its seasonal color ones almost immediately. Tosca is the perfect blend of pink and purple resulting in a very unique color that carries both the depth of purple and loveliness of pink at the same time. Sold out in most Hermes stores you could find by now, get it here from our Shoppe. Available in size S and comes with its pocket and box.

Shoppe the Hermes HAC (Haut à Courroies)

The Hermes Birkin is regarded by many as THE ultimate bag but the fact that the Hermes Haut à Courroies (HAC) is indeed the original bag the Birkin was designed based on, is not a knowledge widely known by many. Looking almost exactly identical as the Birkin but with shorter handles and taller body, the HAC is nowadays more rarely spotted compared to the Birkin itself.

One of our good friends bought his HAC40 two years ago and is now thinking of letting it go to our readers at a bargain price. The bag is still in pristine condition with all corners very well taken care of. The HAC40 is indeed perfect as city bag for you who are blessed with certain heights (170cm and above) or as a weekender. With its iconic design and eye-catching yet timeless color Rouge Venetian, the bag is a classic, meant to be kept forever.

Hermes Alfred

I have mentioned over and again that a backpack should never become the bag for a professional adult. I know it is convenient but it makes you look juvenile, let alone taking up the space of another human being in a crowded area such as in a train, so it makes you self-centered too.

Hermes proves yet again that it knows best when it comes to understated classiness. Following the success of the handsome Steve, Alfred, the younger looking brother, not only is equally handsome but slightly more compact and lighter as well. It is lined with canvas instead of leather like in the case of Steve and trims the price down by about EUR800 compared to Steve to EUR3,650.

By the way, there are a lot more affordable options besides splurging EUR3,650 to look classy and professional (not to mention considerate). Any decent canvas or leather messenger bag or a briefcase is already way better than a backpack, even if it comes for free with a purchase of your notebook.

Askme – Best Bags to Buy Now

Dear Purseholic

I am 48 years old, just recently got out of my 25-year marriage which with the exception of my two gorgeous boys (23 and 20), has turned out to be a complete waste of my life. I used to have many passions in life, including fashion and dressing up but had been paying very little attention to it for the past ten years due to the horrible marriage. To cut the long story short, let’s just say I managed to get out of it with a good settlement and I would really like to put my own life together again. This will involve me hanging out a lot more often with many ladies who lunch therefore I will need a wardrobe overhaul. Most of the bags in my collection are from the late 80s and 90s. I have mostly classic Chanel, Hermes, LV, Gucci and Fendi bags but I need new statement bags that are age appropriate yet current (I want to be seen fresh and current). Would you be kind enough to recommend at least 5 good models and some new designer names for me to keep my eyes on?

Best Wishes

Mandy (not real name), NYC

Dear Mandy (not real name)

Thanks for writing to us. Welcome back to life! You have certainly missed out many exciting bags over the past 10 years but I will try to fill you in. Some new and current brands to watch our for are Meredith Wendell, The Row, Victoria Beckham and Reed Krakoff. At the same time, some older brands which were hot back prior to or in the 1980s such as Celine, Nina Ricci, Givenchy, Valextra and Delvaux have recently re-emerged too. Besides the two groups, some heritage brands made a come back in the past decade, offering new classic pieces worthy of your consideration such as the Balenciaga Giant City, YSL Muse and Muse Two, Hermes Lindy and Tod’s D Bag. Here are the top 5 bags I recommend you getting immediately. They will be approved adored by most of your “ladies-who-lunch” friends and frenemies alike.

1. Victoria Beckham Structured leather tote, USD3,750 from net-a-porter.com in this beautiful Merlot color. Think of Victoria Beckham bags as the new Hermes/Valextra. They are new, incredibly posh and classy.

2. Hermes Lindy 30 or 35, price starts from USD7,000. Because Birkin and Kelly bags represent the old wealth while the Lindy represents the new. The Lindy is very versatile too, can go from casual to more formal events. We have one available now!

3. The Row Metal Frame Lizard Clutch, USD5,800 from net-a-porter.com. In your circle, showing support to new young talents is very important, no? On top of that, the clutch is super gorgeous too!

4. Reed Krakoff Bridle two-tone-leather tote, USD1,190, exclusive at the net-a-porter.com. Simply because it looks effortlessly chic and  stylish. The snakeskin version is even more delicious, if you wish to up the ante.

5. Finally, a Balenciaga City bag in either the classic version (if you want it light) or the Giant version (if you want it glamorous but heavy). Easily because the bag can be packed flat for traveling, it is really versatile and is one of the , if not, the greatest bag created in the past decade. Price is USD1,445 for the classic version and USD1,795 for the Giant version. Available in many beautiful colors season after season.

Please do not stop at here. You owe it to yourself to get as many gorgeous bags as you could afford. I say, the Luggage and the Box bag from Celine must be included in your list next. They are divine!

xoxo

Hermes Yoyo

How to get children to detach from their ipad/Nintendo DS/PSP nowadays? Get them a Yoyo from Hermes, I guess? I enjoyed Yoyo very much as a child but during my time, they were made with woods and cost less than two bucks. This one is going to cost you EUR530. There is a new piece available at www.luxury-shops.com at discounted price of EUR360 though. Grab it?

PS: In this color, it kinda looks like a macaroon, no?

Hermes Festival Des Metiers

Do you know what ‘Bichonner’, ‘Griffer’ or ‘Fileter’ means? How about the number of steps and hours taken to make your Kelly bag or your favorite Hermes scarves? Hermes does not let you in their workshop unless you are a certain powerful magazine editor or a VVIP but from 3 September to 7 September 2011 from 12pm to 7pm daily, you could experience the temporary workshop at Paragon Orchard atrium. Hermes has flown in their tools and craftsmen all the way from France to showcase what really went into your $10,000 bag and $800 scarf.  Gucci and Tod’s have done similar exhibitions earlier this year but the one Hermes is doing is of a totally different league. I received the mailer from Hermes about this exhibition earlier this week and visited the pre-opening site on Wednesday evening where everything had been setup and in place. Enjoy the pictures and see you there tomorrow!

Hermes Kellydoscope 2011

This marketing piece has been installed and moved around since March 2011. It is indeed a playground (imagine Alice in the Wonderland meets Hermes). I hope it comes to Singapore. The Hermes Kelly is definitely a big bag in term of fame and reputation. I guess Hermes wants to remind you of that fact.
