Can this new Brynn tote from Rebecca Minkoff step out of the almighty MAB shadow that put the name Rebecca Minkoff on the map? I don’t really think so but the Brynn tote is quite a pretty bag, with hints of the Hermes Birkin or Mulberry Bayswater touch. The Brynn is made entirely of leather and lined with cotton inside. I like the chain shoulder strap which makes the bag convertible and more in-trend for this season. Price is USD550 at Saks.

The success of Rebecca Minkoff has not departed from its MAB variations. This new Rapture tote is pretty interesting in a way reminding me of a school bag that comes with many compartments. At the downside thought, it is not as chic as the MAB or even close to it. I am sure it is functional and I love the color on its nubuck leather but it is not a bag you flaunt because it is lack of that intimidating aura from a designer bag, if you know what I mean… If you like a bag that works hard for you though, get this from shopbop.com for USD595.

The latest spin-off of the Rebecca Minkoff’s most iconic bag come in some lacey prints. I like the idea but the execution feels a little cheap compared to the real lace-over-leather that Prada did a few seasons back Then again, the price is only 10% of the Prada. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. This classic formula seems to work all the time, especially with bag designers. I have seen less-than-impressive attempts some designers put to ‘update’ their classic pieces and turned them into something scary. Look at the many versions of the original It bag, Fendi Baguette, for example. Despite the many many versions, I still think the best ones are the ones issued in plain leather of any kinds or the classic FF Zucca fabric.
Rebecca Minkoff seems to live by the formula. Her signature Morning After Bag has been issued in many different finishings and colors but she never attempted to be too creative and change it into another bag and that is why the bag is still really appealing. I am loving gray color now, it is much more fun than black and less high-maintenance than white plus Rebecca even lined this bag with purple which is the color everyone seems can’t get enough of now. If you are looking to get your first MAB, this should be it. If you have already had a few, this one surely must make it into your collection. Afterall, the other good thing about Rebecca Minkoff bags is the price point, which is really worth-it for a full Italian leather bag. Get one from Neiman Marcus at USD630.
