Tod’s Custom Made Services

A typical ‘Custom made’ corner in a Tod’s boutique

It has been made available in Singapore since March this year but I did not really get to cover this until I visited the small corner in Tod’s Paragon store today. Tod’s has upped the ante by offering the custom made service for its iconic products in luxurious skins such as python and croc in various color choices. Among few, the iconic Gommini shoes and D-Bag are the clear top choices.

I am loving the medium D-Bag in python, which costs SGD4,950 and 5 months of waiting but I really think it is worth every single cent and second of it, I almost placed one for myself in the military green shade until I realized I really needed to wait after the amount of shopping I had done this month. The croc version of the D-bag will set you back by more than SGD40,000 so that is a story for another day. If you are in the look for something special, make that urgent trip to the store now and be pampered with the choices of style, material and color options that would set you apart from the other off-the-shelf shoppers. I got my hands on a few interesting things today, which I will share later next week but this tops all of them hands down!

Askme – Bags on My Wish List

Hi Purseholic

Just curious, what are the bags on your wish list now?

Jay, Singapore

Hi Jay

I don’t wish to burst your bubble but honestly there is not any one bag high on my wish list for now. Blame it to the designers who, in my opinion, have been slacking on the man bag department lately. For the next season, however, there are some bags that might trip me back into love.

Gucci Unisex Hobo bag for Fall/Winter 2010

Gucci Fall/Winter 2010 promises the return of the unisex Hobo bag. Like the Jackie and the Bamboo, the Hobo is one of the house’s most iconic bags, made popular mostly by Peter Sellers. I have been waiting for Frida to bring this back into Gucci collection for a few years now and this is exciting me. I just hope it comes in a leather version instead of just the suede version because Singapore climate is just not forgiving to suede.

Givenchy Biker Bag Nightingale

Another bag I am coveting is the Givenchy Nightingale, which reached its IT status thanks to the Olsen twins but is now the house’s staple bag. Givenchy made the man bag out of the classic starting this year with at least two variations for its men’s Fall/Winter 2010 collection.  I have not seen the bags in person so I am not sure whether it stands well to the original. However, even if it does not suit my taste eventually, I might just get the large version of the original. Givenchy is opening in Paragon Singapore soon and hopefully it satisfies the society’s cravings for the Nightingale.

Tod’s D Bag Bauletto

Of course, there are also some women bags that I love so much I hope the designers would have the sensibility to pick up the cues and come up with the man bag. If the bag is not girly to begin with and it could be a man bag just by blowing it up, why not? I am talking to Alexander Wang for the Rocco bag and Derek Lam for the Tod’s D Bag Bauletto here.

Hermes HAC 40 in black Clemence

Lastly, there are some classic bags on my list but they will wait simply because: one, I still have not got the moolah to spare and two, I still have other priorities in life (more  holidays, more properties, cars, watches and art pieces, to name a few). Those babies are the Loewe Amazona 44 in dark green Ostrich and Hermes Birkin 40/HAC 40 in navy blue Fjord.

Just FYI… if you happen to be feeling generous, I will take any one of the above any time.

Salvatore Ferragamo New Gancini Icona Vitello Tote

We have not featured Ferragamo bags with excitement for a while and while the design of the New Gancini Icona is not exactly avant-garde, it is timeless, luxurious and it means business. For some reason, Ferragamo is making its bags a lot more affordable these days yet gladly, the material and looks are still not compromised. This beautiful tote is entirely crafted in beautiful Saffiano leather. It is highly functional and is very good in the looks department as well. At only SGD1,500 from Saks (maybe slightly more expensive in Singapore), it makes a perfect gift for working women who rely on the likes of Hermes Birkins and Kellys as statement pieces. This baby makes just as good an alternative.

Tod’s Shade Tote

The Tod’s shade tote might be one of the most underrated bags which you should start paying a serious consideration to starting now. Made entirely of buttery soft leather, the Shade is now one of Tod’s iconic styles, classic, convenient and fuss-free, including hardware-free which makes this bag lightweight and perfect as a daily bag. For the Summer, Tod’s has reissued the Shade in lust-worthy colors such as this bright orange and electric blue. At USD1,095, it is a loss for you if you do not consider this one as a must-have.

Christian Dior Lady Dior

Lady Diana with Lady Dior Bag

In the 90s, the late Princess Diana started one spark (among many sparks she made) in the fashion history  with a Dior bag that officially sent the house into bag business, hence the name of  the bag is a tribute to the Lady. Today, Dior is still among the few fashion mega brands which rely more on its ready-to-wear and make-up lines for its revenue generation as opposed to on its leather goods such as Hermes, Gucci and Vuitton. Nevertheless, its Lady Dior bag is still one of the most iconic and timeless bags around.

Classic Lady Dior Cannage in lambskin (USD1,950)

Almost 20 years later, John Galliano updated the classic again and putting one of French hottest actress, Marion Cotillard as the new face of the house and for the bag. Leighton Meester’s Blair Waldorf in the Gossip Girl has been seen with different reincarnations of the bag throughout the season 2 of the show. The new Lady Dior bags were definitely designed with younger audiences in mind and the best part is, it is still one of the classic bags we come across less often today.

As the name suggests, this piece of Dior is for a lady, not any women, let alone girls. The bag is simple and feminine yet the owner knows herself and has discovered her own style long time ago.
