Tod’s Iconic D Bags

For the Spring/Summer 2012, Tod’s re-incarnated its iconic D Bag not only in color palettes that are visually sublime but also in super luxurious snakeskin that begs to be adopted and loved. The collection is highly inspired by Tod’s core customers. Tod’s women lead busy lives and rely on accessories and clothing that are elegant and versatile at the same time. Staying true to the house’s philosophy, Derek Lam’s creations for Tod’s focus on quality, timelessness, functionality and versatility without compromising elegance and luxury in any way. Price of D Bags in snakeskin starts from SGD5,000.

Tod’s Custom Made Services

A typical ‘Custom made’ corner in a Tod’s boutique

It has been made available in Singapore since March this year but I did not really get to cover this until I visited the small corner in Tod’s Paragon store today. Tod’s has upped the ante by offering the custom made service for its iconic products in luxurious skins such as python and croc in various color choices. Among few, the iconic Gommini shoes and D-Bag are the clear top choices.

I am loving the medium D-Bag in python, which costs SGD4,950 and 5 months of waiting but I really think it is worth every single cent and second of it, I almost placed one for myself in the military green shade until I realized I really needed to wait after the amount of shopping I had done this month. The croc version of the D-bag will set you back by more than SGD40,000 so that is a story for another day. If you are in the look for something special, make that urgent trip to the store now and be pampered with the choices of style, material and color options that would set you apart from the other off-the-shelf shoppers. I got my hands on a few interesting things today, which I will share later next week but this tops all of them hands down!

Askme – Hottest Bag to Buy Now

Hi Purseholic

I am buying my first real designer handbags (a bag and a clutch) and would like to get from respected brands but ones that do not scream logos all over. My budget is not over S$5000 for both. I like bags from Hermes but they are beyond my budget. Are bags from YSL and Dior good bet?

Melissa

Hi Melissa

I applaud you for acknowledging the importance of buying a clutch as well as a bag as it shows that you know that is definitely NOT OK to bring a big bag to an evening event even if it is a Million Dollar bag. Having said that, given your generous budget for a first bags (I wish I had that amount for my first), you are in for many sweet deals.

From left: Celine luggage bag, Tod’s restyled D bag and Loewe Amazona bag

I assume you are working so your bag has to go from work to play seamlessly. If you want cool designer bags with the same vein as of Hermes’, I say you go with Celine, Tod’s or Loewe. The Celine luggage bag in small would be perfect for daily bag and it a classic, alongside the Tod’s restyled D bag and the Loewe Amazona. These bags are now available in many varieties of  size, material and color and I have featured pictures of the bags in action above. You could get one of these babies under SGD3,000 in Singapore. Do choose a darker shade of colors so it could be a keeper.

YSL chYc Clutch

As for the clutch, with almost SGD2,000 budget to spare, there are plenty choices to choose from. YSL has been making great clutches lately and my sis bought one in hot lipstick red shade a few months back. The chYc clutch is a great choice if you like something classic with a touch of chicness, as the name suggests.  It is priced slightly under SGD1,000 at Saks.com before shipping but should be over one grand in Singapore boutique. Alternatively, the classic Ferragamo Gancini clutch is also a sure-win bet.

Do not refrain from buying online if the price is better significantly even after shipping and the 7% GST. If you make your choices carefully, you might still end up with over one grand to spare. I suggest you put that extra money into a Louis Vuitton Speedy or Neverfull in Damier Canvas Ebene (since you are avoiding logo screams). It will work well under wet days and when you want a lightweight, low-maintenance bag for a change.

Happy shopping!

Tod’s Ivy Bauletto Piccolo Top Handle Bag

Leave it to Tod’s to create the anti-trendy classic bags in the most appealing leather and dare I say… green color. It is no secret that I am a fan of green colors and this is the first reason I got attracted to this bag but knowing Tod’s, the more you handle it, the more you will love the bag. Priced at just USD1,095, it is one of the most understated classically beautiful bags money can buy.

Tod’s Sacca Lampo Oblique Media Shoulder Bag

The fact that this bag is made almost entirely out of natural linen canvas and lined with satin (meaning very little leather used) does not take away its beauty. I think, Tod’s has perfected the art of creating a classy and classic looking bag out of mundane material and there is no real need to print its logo all over it. I think this is a great bag to invest in. It is light, casual but not sloppy, has many compartments on it and most importantly, beautiful. It is priced at around SGD1,350 at Saks.com. Good buy if you ask me.

What is in Your Bag?

Following the launch of Tod’s iPad covers, Tod’s launched its very first iPad application ‘My Life is in this Bag’, which allows users to enter and experience the world of Tod’s, and browse the various collections.

This premier application is an interactive and playful way to view and identify with six interesting women through the contents of their Tod’s iconic D bags,  who represent the social, intellectual, globetrotting, family, business and art worlds.

‘My Life is in this Bag’ is a showcase of virtual themed lifestyles, and it represents a snapshot of what is in each woman’s D-Bag, allowing users to journey into the different lifestyles and personalities, and discover tips ranging from the most spectacular destinations around the globe to an insider guide for art and entertainment.

I don’t have any ipad yet but if you do, try it out! The question is, “what is in your bag?”.

PS: Look at those D bags in Croc and Mink! You have to get one of those in your life because it simply is to-die-for!

Tod’s Exclusive D Bag for Shanghai Expo 2010

If Prada makes hideous nylon bags to commemorate the Shanghai Expo 2010, Tod’s makes 20 pieces of its iconic Restyling D bags in this beautiful shade. I am pretty sure it would have been sold out by now so we could just adore it from far. Besides this bag, Tod’s also made a 20-piece man wallet for this event and I think it would have been sold out by now too. Both the bag and the wallet bear commemorative “Exclusively Made for Shanghai Expo 2010″ logo. Nice work, Tod’s. As always.

Askme – Bags on My Wish List

Hi Purseholic

Just curious, what are the bags on your wish list now?

Jay, Singapore

Hi Jay

I don’t wish to burst your bubble but honestly there is not any one bag high on my wish list for now. Blame it to the designers who, in my opinion, have been slacking on the man bag department lately. For the next season, however, there are some bags that might trip me back into love.

Gucci Unisex Hobo bag for Fall/Winter 2010

Gucci Fall/Winter 2010 promises the return of the unisex Hobo bag. Like the Jackie and the Bamboo, the Hobo is one of the house’s most iconic bags, made popular mostly by Peter Sellers. I have been waiting for Frida to bring this back into Gucci collection for a few years now and this is exciting me. I just hope it comes in a leather version instead of just the suede version because Singapore climate is just not forgiving to suede.

Givenchy Biker Bag Nightingale

Another bag I am coveting is the Givenchy Nightingale, which reached its IT status thanks to the Olsen twins but is now the house’s staple bag. Givenchy made the man bag out of the classic starting this year with at least two variations for its men’s Fall/Winter 2010 collection.  I have not seen the bags in person so I am not sure whether it stands well to the original. However, even if it does not suit my taste eventually, I might just get the large version of the original. Givenchy is opening in Paragon Singapore soon and hopefully it satisfies the society’s cravings for the Nightingale.

Tod’s D Bag Bauletto

Of course, there are also some women bags that I love so much I hope the designers would have the sensibility to pick up the cues and come up with the man bag. If the bag is not girly to begin with and it could be a man bag just by blowing it up, why not? I am talking to Alexander Wang for the Rocco bag and Derek Lam for the Tod’s D Bag Bauletto here.

Hermes HAC 40 in black Clemence

Lastly, there are some classic bags on my list but they will wait simply because: one, I still have not got the moolah to spare and two, I still have other priorities in life (more  holidays, more properties, cars, watches and art pieces, to name a few). Those babies are the Loewe Amazona 44 in dark green Ostrich and Hermes Birkin 40/HAC 40 in navy blue Fjord.

Just FYI… if you happen to be feeling generous, I will take any one of the above any time.

Tod’s Shade Tote

The Tod’s shade tote might be one of the most underrated bags which you should start paying a serious consideration to starting now. Made entirely of buttery soft leather, the Shade is now one of Tod’s iconic styles, classic, convenient and fuss-free, including hardware-free which makes this bag lightweight and perfect as a daily bag. For the Summer, Tod’s has reissued the Shade in lust-worthy colors such as this bright orange and electric blue. At USD1,095, it is a loss for you if you do not consider this one as a must-have.
