Valextra Capri Tote

Instead of full leather bags, bags made of uncoated canvas and leather trimming combo seem to be in trend now. Valextra is known for its beautifully crafted leather goods and high quality, thick, supple Italian leather comparable to Hermes’ and this tote is definitely not one of the master pieces of the house but it is fun, definitely in-trend (canvas bag with color blocking) and appropriate for destination Capri, like the place it is named after. Get this Capri tote in this green leather trim or in blue or orange from Barneys for USD950. It is a worthy alternative to open top totes like the Louis Vuitton Neverfull. Talking about Capri… Oh… I need holiday!

Valextra Carla Reversed Handbag

Valextra is one of the high-end brands out there I have to own at least a piece one day. Like Hermes, the brand is all about timeless elegance, creativity,  superb quality leather and impeccable workmanship. The Carla Reversed is one of those bags which design is versatile enough to go from work to shop and play and at around 40cm long, perhaps as man bag too. I have not seen the bag in person so I can’t judge but judging by the fact that Valextra is making bags in beautiful bring colors like this magenta, seems like it is ready to be loved and admired by the younger crowds around the world. Hermes should watch out as this is one is  truly a  worthy competitor. This beautiful baby is available at Barneys for USD2,450.

Valextra Unisex Top Handle Brief Tote

Hi handsome! Isn’t this Italian a looker? I think I am in love. This tote is also available in white at USD2,650 at Barneys. For the fact that Valextra makes superior products, I think the price tag is incredibly justifiable, bordering affordable. What are you waiting for?

Fall 2010 Bag Preview

Singapore is not a bad place to live in except for the weather which is either hot and humid or raining. Can’t it just be, for once, nice? Yet before I get attacked by readers who would kill for weather like Singapore’s, I am not complaining, just pondering. Anyway, now that the summer is around, Fall 2010 bags are up for preview too. There are some new creations which is excellent remembering that designers have been pretty lazy for the past few seasons just playing variations on their existing design.

Row one (from left): Alexander Wang, Celine, Chloé

Row two (from left): Derek Lam, Dior, Fendi

Row three (from left): Miu Miu, Mulberry, Valextra

Ship a Valextra Tote to Yourself from Florence

Fancy a Valextra tote but not living in a city where Valextra owns a store? Ship one for yourself directly from Florence through www.luisaviaroma. com. In all honesty, i am extremely excited to have come across this site as they ship to most countries in the world (free for orders exceeding Euro 500) and the price of the bags are without import mark-ups. In Asia, Valextra only owns stores in Hong Kong and Japan but this  means you don’t have to travel to those two countries to shop Valextra anymore. I have been in love with this Valextra tote, especially in white color and now seriously considering getting it as my next treat. The bag costs Euro762.5 including free shipping to Singapore. It costs USD 1,290 is Barneys US. You do the math there. Stay tune for more product features from this site. I am in love!

Katie Holmes with Valextra Tundra

I am not sure whether her friendship with Victoria Beckham is still intact but Katie Holmes’ personal style has degraded lately. Although not yet back to her boring self when she was the Dawson Creek’s girl, it is not too far now. Yes, she now knows what labels to pick but putting them together might still be a problem for her (some people are just not born naturally with it). Look at the legging and jeans, too many things going on there. Hanging on her arm is Valextra Tundra shopper. Like Hermes, you could rarely go wrong with Valextra but why this piece of Valextra? It is quite boring for a casual style she is wearing. See how many times i said “boring” when it comes to Kat? Valextra Tundra is available at Barneys for USD2,500. I would have opted for Valextra Punchline (right) for USD1,290 instead – as simpler but more character. What do you think?

Fall 2009 Bags Preview

Studded and Decorated: Bottega Veneta, Louis Vuitton, Coach and Miu Miu

Evening and clutches: Chanel, Fendi, Lanvin and Marc Jacobs

Day and Carryall: Dior, Givenchy, Burberry and Gucci

All about Business: Dolce and Gabbana, Prada and Ralph Lauren

And we are in love with: Tod’s, Tod’s again, YSL and Valextra

While the summer heat is still burning strong, the bags preview for Fall 2009 look exciting already. From what we have seen so far, the hottest bags do not come from the usual front-runners (Gucci, Fendi or Louis Vuitton) but rather from the underdogs like Tod’s, Valextra and even Ralph Lauren. I personally do not complain as long as the outlook is looking brighter than the somewhat relatively disappointing season it is now. Stay tune! Can’t wait for next season.

Valextra at Barneys.com

Barneys.com just upped the ante by bringing Valextra bags. Valextra is the one Italian leather house whose workmanship is comparable to that of Hermes’ and i am not exaggerating when i said so. While the design of the bags are simple and low-key, they have the attributes of staying timeless like those of Hermes’ minus the hips of Birkins and Kellys. The bags carried by barneys are all in soft Vitello leather. The choice of colors to pick from leaves me uneasy as i am equally drawn to the light blue, white and orange which means even if i have the cash now, i will not be able to pick just one.

Price points are relatively lower for now compared to Hermes but with more buzz surrounding this house, expect prices to go up real soon. Get the classic pieces in the most exciting colors. From left: Large Punchline Tote in Turchese for USD 1,720; Babila Bag in Aragosta Orange for USD 2,240 and Small Boston Bag in Ribes Red for USD 2,190.
